I got a new HDD the other day and installed it for extra space because my main drive is getting full. I intalled it as the slave on the primary EIDE cable. I was wondering of there was a way to make it a part of the main drive. Like instead of having two drives, the computer will see it as one single drive and it will be called C:/. The reason i'm wondering is because when ever i move something to the second drive, it goes there but it also stays on the main drive and i have to delete it from the main drive so i don't have two copies floating around. Basicly I want to if its just a matter of changeing the jumpers, or is there somrthing i can download.

If anybody knows if this is possible or if you have any usefull suggestions please tell me.

I'm not sure if that's possible. I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable members will tell you a method if it is.

You can avoid deleting the file on the older drive by choosing Cut instead of Copy. Ctrl+X is the keyboard shortcut if you want to try that, too.

Hey, hey, hey, as much of an ok guy I think you are, I take that line as an insult. It's just not as active as the Flood, but still active enough... =D

The Library is a ghost town.

The Maw is not a ghost town. I go here nearly everyday--it's far from inactive. It just has a slower, more deliberate pace, which I'm glad it has. That way I can keep up with it.

Well you see, the minor reason the Maw is still well and active is the fact that Kim here is always flaming us (in a humorous way) one thread after another. xD No offense Kim.

If you want to see a real ghost town, go to the Library. Actually, even then, it's still relatively active. I post there often as well.

Seriously, the Maw is active on its own without me.

I know, I was just saying...for a little humor.

Hmm I don't know of any way to "combine" drives, but perhaps Raid 0 would accomplish a similar goal? It saves half of every thing saved on each drive, speeding up read and write time.

Hmmm, no im trying to make two hard drives into one. That Raid 0 thing or whatever would only further complicate my situation. Thanks anyway.

It's been a half an hour between your posts. Good god, have a little patience child. Oh, and don't double post. There's an edit button for a reason.

As far as I know there isn't a way to make your computer think that two hard drives are actually one. Maybe because there's two of them. If you want one large hard drive, go buy one and move all your files onto it.

I was thinking of moving every thing on my primary to my new one, but i was worried that it would it would all be rearranged on the new one. The new one is a WD and the original is a Seagate. The WD came with some software to move large chunks of files, but im to chicken to use it.

If that's the case, you're better off taking your machine down to the computer repair center and having a professional do it for you.

Im more than capable of doing it. I just fear that i might loose some data. I was thinking one could manipulate the jumpers and tweak a few settings and it would work. Im shure somebodys been able to do it.

The only way to do what you're proposing would be to do as someone above mentioned and setup a Raid 0 (striping). However, you have to have two identical SATA drives , which you do not.

Sorry dude, to my knowlege you're out of luck. </3

Um no the only jumper settings (usually) are single, dual master, and dual slave.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

MS-DOS used to have the JOIN command to make say, drive D appear as something like C:\BLAH\ instead. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent in Widows XP (to my knowledge). If you're using Windows ME, 98 or 95, open a DOS prompt and type JOIN /? to see how it works.

using IDE drives, your not gonna be able to do that because of the master and slave relationship. you need to get two SATA drives and stripe them in a raid 0. or if your more interested in stability, mirror them in a raid 1.

more likely then not, your mobo isn't going to have any sata inputs, so your pretty much out of luck unless you buy/build a new pc

The only other method is to convert your hard drive to a dynamic disk and have two partitions. One for your C: drive for your OS. The other which spans both drives which can be used for storing data. More info here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308424

Apart from that your out of luck.
