Who on Earth is paying full price for Vista? I'm sure most of you are running Windows, just buy the much cheaper upgrade version, and clean install. Only $99 bucks at Fry's, which is the same price of XP when I bought it. As an added bonus, buy Vista and get Office '07 Student for half price (student lets you install on 3 computers at once, at the cost of no MS Publisher).

As for me, I'm not buying Vista until I upgrade my video card and the second version in released.

Vista = Win, even without Halo

Ya... I have Vista Buisness for free. MSDN ftw! I also have Office 2k7 for free, my current job rocks hard.

Oh, and who ever says that vista is a knock off of OSX, should be taken into the street and a buck-shot inserted into his/her head forcefully.

Well I'm getting Vista beacuse currently, the best my PC can do is play Halo at lowest detail settings, and it still crashes about every four matches or so. It can barely even play Quake lll. So Vista is the perfect time for me upgrade my computer. And, as people before have mentioned, Vista is the next system for awhile, so most of us are getting it sometime or another. You can fight it all you want, but you'll get Vista one way or another. So you might as well buy H2V while you're at it.

Currently I find it pretty useless though. Maybe in the future when drivers actually WORK, and games don't give stupid messages, then yeah. Now though, no.

Let there be CHAOS!

I got Vista because I needed a new computer and I might as well get the next OS so I can use all the newest software/play the newest games, so I waited for Vista to come out and got my new computer that day.

If your serious windows user then you will know XP does everything Vista does.

Well, OK, Vista might do a bit more, but its all GUI bloated rubbish for the morons to be dazzaled about.

Put two identical computers next to each other. Have one XP SP1, and the other Vista. Both run Quake 4. Now see which one performs better. :)

People say "For the latest games". Games that are in development such a Unreal 3 use DirectX 9, and this is the closest gaming engine to photogenic. I will most likely require Windows 2000 as minimum.

All these little -blam!- and medium game developers using DirectX 10 for games with hopeless graphics are just throwing away customers, as they could probably acheive the same with DirectX 9.

I cannot beleive so many people are going along with the big Vista hoorah, and Microsoft's terminal morals.

Instead of accepting it, denie it. Your can be either weak or strong. You have a choice. You choose!

im afraid im gonna have to confiscate your testicles.

What are you, the Cyber police? lol.

Yes, because you will be missing alot of things, besides, barely anyone plays on CE, and some of the maps have bugs and miss some things considering the makers arent professionals like the producers of Halo 2 Vista, just think how many times they check over a single little thing. They really want Halo 2 Vista to sell.

BTW, I didnt want to create a topic but others can read it, it sort of relates to this thread:

Why would you have to go out and buy a whole new computer to play a game, it would be a good game but soon you'll get bored of it and will collect dust on your desk or shelf or w/e.
Im starting to hate why you have to, I mean, cant the graphics just be down-graded like Halo PC? If you get Vista you'll get all the graphics, if you have ... for say a windows XP you'll get most of the graphics, and if you have something lower... then well dont count on a good game-play experience, I picked this out and this guy says it all in good words.

From another forum. I DID NOT WRITE THIS:

I was bored at work last night, and was reading through a couple gamer mags (PC Gamer and some generic-looking one, like "Computer Gamer" or something) and one had a tiny article about Halo 2: It's coming for PCs this fall, but will ONLY run on Vista.

So I'm wondering, what could Vista have that XP doesn't? It's either that or something as simple as Microsoft wanting to push Vista. But, if the latter is true, certainly Halo 2 doesn't have enough weight to push a Vista transition. Does Microsoft plan on launching or re-launching more titles with Vista-only support? I know Vista Ultimate will have enhancements for gaming (subscription services, tweaking, etc.) but as a general platform, I don't see what Vista will have that XP won't. If there's to be a DirectX 10, surely it will be released on XP as well.

I spanked Halo on the PC, but I can't play it on the Xbox. I can aim much better with a mouse than an Etch-A-Sketch (two knobs) and I think that's part of the reason Halo was a challenge. I've only seen my brother play part of one level (driving over a bridge toward a city) and it looked alright.

As far as the first one goes, I liked the levels/enemies, and the story wasn't great, but it was better than a lot of games (Doom 3, Far Cry). What I didn't like was the "wave" gameplay aspect - fight a bunch of enemies, rest (let your shield refill), and fight another bunch. I like to fight on my own terms, not a game's. And that one level - The Library, I think - where you follow the floating eye robot thingy - that was a [female dog]! The Covenant are cool, but the Flood were a pain in the arse. So I hope they don't come back for Halo 2.

I'm looking forward to playing Halo 2, but not so much that I will buy Vista. Unless 1) nobody online has any problems with it *AND* 2) I can test the final build for free (via p2p or a friend) *OR* get a legal demo somehow, like a Live CD (yeah, right!), make sure it works with everything I do, then I'm waiting for the first service pack. I bought XP Pro the day it came out, but couldn't use it - too buggy. Good thing I held onto it, slipstreamed Service Pack 1A into it - from there it was OK. Vista, I'll just wait - unless I come into an ungodly amount of money, in which case I may buy early.

Dude, obviously you don't appreciate that Vista anticipates the next two generations in processors and graphics cards, at least.

Current gen hardware and such is not intended to make use of Vista's various backend improvements over XP, even the supposed "DX10" cards and the latest processors.

The future of processors is multiple, mid clock range, cores, I'm talking 10 or so, not 2, and certainly not 4. Graphics cards and special order processors for advanced physics calculations already use multiple cores like this, processors have been focused on clock speed and throughput on a single core thus far, but now that technology is able to cheaply produce reliable, multi-core processors, that's going to change. Vista takes full advantage of this where XP can not. Stick Vista on a second generation multi-core processor and it will eat XP alive just as XP eats Win95.

DX9 can not generate the same graphics as DX10, because Microsoft changed the API and libraries in DX10. They went from a swiss-army knife, to a multitool. Sure they do a lot of the same things, but the multitool does it better, and can do far more, just like DX10 over DX9.

Judging Vista based on the hardware and drivers available at launch is foolish, it will shine later, right now it's getting out into the market.

What's so much better about a 2007 Ford F150 over a 2001? Not much, just a little bit more comfy, some more features, more power. But it is better. And for those who use it for more than looking pretty, it's differences show nicely.

Wait for people to take advantage of what Vista has to offer, you will see a wave of software unlike any you have seen before.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

I like Vista's look, and the Aero interface. While I do have a midrange GeForce 7 Series card, I'm still good in the graphics department for a few more months. When I graduate this May, I will try and get an 8 Series card.

I actually have Vista, I just haven't installed it yet.

DC Spartan:

Halo 2 Vista did not have to utilize any Windows Vista technology for Bungie to acheive what they want.

Games such as Quake 4, and up coming Unreal 3, run, and will run on Windows 2000.
I know Microsoft/Bungie are no where near as skilled as iD Software and Epic Software when it comes to computer game engines, but it doesn't take a master to get it running on 2000/XP.
Halo 2 Vista uses DirectX 9 technology, which is available in Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Halo 2 Vista's heart is Halo 2 for Xbox... Xbox - modified Windows 2000 operating system.

If you beleive Halo 2 Vista will be better because it is exclusive for Windows Vista then you know nothing about computer games.

It amazes me at how stupid the human race can be some times.

But Vista is a *new* windows. There is lots of software that won't work with it as it is and lots that has had patches brought out to remedy. A big example was Nero. This refused to work with Vista due to how ASPI was re-written and had to be patched or upgraded to work properly.

Just because something LOOKS the same or 'appears' to be the same as something else doesn't mean that it actually IS. There is lots of software around that doen't utilise any XP technoclogy to run, however they soon fall over when placed through a Windows95 machine.

Unless someone is planning to go through the software to see exactly where it hooks into Vista and re-write it to allow the same thing to happen on XP, then release a working copy, no-one can really say *WHAT* the technical reasons are that it would work on one machine and not the other.

just wait another couple of months. They'll release patches, fix bugs, and then just release another, slightly better version of Vista. It just isn't worth the money and time to get Vista UNLESS, your computer is older than 5 years old, and you NEED to replace it. In that case, just buy a new computer that comes with Vista, see it sucks, stop your whining, and get over your sad obsession with having unnecessary (not to mention too damn expensive) desires for the latest junk.

For the last time, Vista works just fine and has minimal issues, it's everyone else who doesn't have drivers or didn't make their software XP certified. Because you see, XP was nice, if your software wasn't XP certified, XP would just say "You sure you wana use this program bro?" while Vista, to ensure idiots don't go and get viruses or screw up important registry values, stops these programs from doing the things that made them fail XP certification in the first place, and so, obviously, they don't work on Vista!

There are patches for XP that do the same thing that Vista does, but their optional, which is why we don't hear mass complaints, because most people don't download the optional stuff, and I bet a lot of people don't even download the very security updates etc. that fix problems that people complained about with XP.

Perhaps H2V didn't need to be on Vista, but that doesn't mean it won't likely work BETTER on Vista, and there is no reason to not get Vista other than dealing with drivers that may or may not work properly can be a pain in the ass.

Vista doesn't let you install it? So your operating tells you what you can and can't do... LoL! When your Windows tells you this then your really sucking Microsoft's dick!

If people install "junk" and mess up there computer, then stiff -blam!-. Don't install crap, and if you don't know what your doing on computers then its the users fault for trying to take on something they can't.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL omg. I just love how ironic the human race is.
Some people just do not see the big picture.

Windows is know for its security flaws. They fix them and BOOM some one says they shouldn't have.

I don't want to have to deal with firewalls or security updates every day. I don't want to have to deal with spyware. I don't want an outdated OS that looks like a toy unless you purposely break it.
I want stricter standers on the hardware and software companies produce. I want a nice looking interface, I want security measures that work.

I will not get this with xp. Vista is a large step in the right direction.

If you want to -blam!- about how it will screw up all your stuff all I can say is suck it up. Upgrading to Vista is no different than having to upgrade to XP back in the day.

I'm certifiable.

I'm mildly interested in Vista, but not for gaming; I have an Origami tablet PC, and Vista's tablet features (especially handwriting recognition and voice command) are supposed to be substantially improved over XP Tablet. Add in being able to get rid of 3rd-party firewall software and it does tempt.

Note that my Origami has a 900MHz processor and 512MB RAM (pause to allow laughter to subside) but folks have gotten Vista RTM to run on the same model so it's not like you need a super-workhorse computer to drive it. Of course, my wee computer will never feel the touch of AeroGlass... *shrug* or Halo 2 Vista, for that matter, but so what?

-- Steve's holding off, though, in part because the OEM hasn't finished getting Vista drivers set up. (Those courageous folks used a crazy mish-mash of drivers borrowed from wherever they weren't nailed down.) And in part because the XBox 360 and Office '07 license drained the gadget budget...
