Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

This thread just got locked. I can understand why it was locked, but I think it was getting back on topic and could've stayed open. But, that is besides the point.

Should there be a note or something at the bottom of the OP saying when a thread was locked and by who? Sometimes, when you just made your first thread, it helps to know who locked it, especially when no explanation was given, so you can PM the moderator and have them tell you why it was locked. It could be something so simple as when a moderator pushes the magic lock button on a thread that a note is automatically added to the bottom of the OP. Maybe anb addition to the New Hawtness 2.0? Just trying to throw some ideas out there, feel free to criticize.

EDIT- I just noticed that Kd5shw's mod's online site is back up at a different page. I had kept trying to use the old one and it wasn't working, so I thought it was gone. That could kind of be used instead of the "locked by" note.

That thread had nothing to do with playlists which made it off-topic. It was just another thread complaining about the pp/BR combo. Usually the mods post why a thread was locked or PM the thread maker so I don't see any use for note on the thread saying why it was locked.

I didn't notice it was opti-match, sorry about that. But, then why couldn't it be moved? Lots of other threads are moved.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Sometimes moving a particular thread will just create more problems. The thread in question would have probably just turned into a flame war in New Mombassa if it were moved. Sometimes it is better to just avoid things like that and just lock it.

I for one will usually post in the thread or at least PM the OP with the reason for the lock.

Well, if a thread is locked, it was probably done for a reason. I don't see how/why/if people would want to know who locked it.

Usually a glance at the forum rules and stickies would explain why something is locked.

I think having some feature for the Mods to auto-post in threads they lock could solve a fair bit of the confusion involved. That way, any members who don't think the thread should have been locked know exactly who to PM.

Of course, that is a bad thing.

Good idea. Locked By:

But then people might make threads about how such and such locked their thread... But people do that anyway...

I would prefer editing. Unless you could make it so that the post doesn't bump the thread. Since the point of locking them is to let them fall, they shouldn't always be bumped up to the top when they're locked.

But from what I hear, most moderators do notify the OP when it is locked. Although, having a standard thing that laways happens could be helpful.

Actually, it would just be a post by the ninja themselves, that says Thread Locked. Making it automated would remove the need for the ninjas to post it manually. Manually posting in the thread before locking would overide this, so they don't double post (teh noes!)

I'm pretty sure it was once stated by a Mod that in some cases the reason is pretty obvious so they don't close it... But yea, I wouldn't mind seeing who locks one of my threads so I can figure out why.

For example: I made a thread about one of the tips that are displayed while waiting for a game in MM. It was in New Mombasa Btw. Soon after It was Locked and to no reason I could think of.

i peonaly wont complain if any of my threads get locked but a quick resion why is allways nice

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

That would be good because I do not like to respond to every single thread I lock because it takes forever. Something to this effect may happen in the next update.

If you're wondering, I locked that thread because it didn't belong in Optimatch, and I felt that it was too petulant and the subject far too over-discussed to warrant moving it.

Great idea. It seems like every time a thread is locked, the creator makes another thread either duplicating the first, or talking and complaining about the locked thread. This way, Mods would have a very viable reason to blacklist the person, or at least lock their thread and give them a warning. It would cut down on a lot of the clutter.

This could be used to similar effect with deleted threads. When a thread is deleted, an automatic PM could be sent to the creator, telling them their thread was deleted and who did it.

What's the new site, because I wasn't aware there was a new one?

Anything that makes the mods more efficient is probably a good thing. Mods should have the option to disable the feature.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

That could be a useful tool. If there was a scroll bar with a few different options, or a list of boxes that could be checked, that would probably cover most everything we lock threads for. I like this idea.

Although, it would be a must to be able to disable it. Sometimes those spam attacks don't leave us much time to lock and black list morons now, so if we also had to pick a lock reason, that might be too time consuming.

It could be set up so that you don't have to select a reason. If you didn't, it would only leave a message saying you locked it.

I usually only leave a message if I think the reason might be a little vague.
