I would love it if it blocked posts with 5+ misspellings. That's not really what you're asking for, but it would be nice. No more 1337 speak. That's what this place needs. Spell-check would be nice in the future, even though I'm on Firefox 2.0.

(It thinks Firefox needs to be capitalized. Interesting...)

probably not practical, seeing as so many things would count as misspellings. [center vs centre for example]. Not to mention any dyslexic people we have on this forum would feel a bit hard done too.

I would like to see moderators banning people for excessive leet speak though; "BK" et al are used far too frequently.

A spell checker is on the list of things to add, yes. Eventually. Might be a while, there a bunch of other things I have to do before I can get to it.
But will it feature grammar check? I think poor grammar can look worse than poor spelling.

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

I don't know... I think spellcheck would make the servers explode. Grammar check would cause overloads great enough to fill the void of Noguchi's desk.

Though an excellent resource, I believe spellcheck will provide more fuel to the individuals prone to pointing out people's misspellings in posts. Post-Spellcheck will be hell, in my opinion. Now when someone fails to spell a word or words correctly, not only will they seem foolish for doing so, but they will be flamed even more profusely for also failing to utilize spellcheck!! Do you see my point?

Just my 2 cents.

Now as for as these posts:

I ask you, why so distraught over the 1337 speak? This is, after all, a Halo forum, is it not? I can agree wholeheartedly that it can be highly annoying to see a huge abundance of it, but it's no different really than the argument one person (he/she will go unnamed) gave about posters typing out actions (e.g. *hugs*). If something is spam, then take the necessary action(s). But 1337 speak cannot be automatically grouped into spam. Annoying, yes, but let's be practical and remember what type of forums we are on and with what age groups of people we are surrounded by.

It wasn't really a serious suggestion (perhaps I should have put a smiley in there), but I can't really say I've seen any valuable posts written in 1337 speak.

Another user made a thread about this a while back. I've always supported the idea.

Luckily, Firefox (or Safari, if you're on a Mac) has a spellcheck built in to it.

I meant they aren't important to fish. We, however, are not fish.

We are in fact, people. Therefore the moderators are cherished and loved and such.

Fishes with Wheels FTW! They just try to drive away when I try to have my way with them :(

Sorry, Zaggy.

But yeah, the community here needs a spell-checker. Some grammar is so horrible... just.... *vomits in disgust*

I think we should have some sort of system that checks your post for off-topic nonsense.. Don't you agree, Bapa!?

>_>

Fish with wheels? Pfft.
Now, if it had a spellchecker, would people actually use it..? :\ Or perhaps some thing saying "50% or more of your words in this post are not recognized. Please fix them before you may submit your post."

25% should be the tolerance. But if that were implemented, B.net would suffer the excess strain of having every single post access the dictionary. Too much lag, if you ask me.

The poor spelling and grammar are annoying, but responsibility should fall to the poster. One good thing about bad spelling/grammar, it helps with the weeding, I know at a glance not to bother reading the post. ;-)

I don't think you know what you're talking about. A built-in spellchecker would not cause problems like that.

Yes, it would. Having a spell check built in to the site itself would have to be accessed remotely, just like every other feature of the site. You must be thinking of a spell checker built into the browser, like Firefox.

Maybe I'm just a weirdo but I enjoy using a dictionary to check my spelling. You never know what other words you might stumble upon. Like neurasthenia.

That's exactly why I don't use a dictionary, I spend too much time looking up other words.
