I just had an idea that would help lower the amount of spamming/trolling, but it would probably just create more problems. I dont know, but here it is.

Let the author of the thread somewhat moderator the thread. Maybe just being able to delete posts that were just spam and block some users from viewing the thread?

Whadya think?

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

You remember that guy "N3mm"? He'd just delete everything he didn't like.

I am...whimsical today.

Maybe some sort of flagging system that would attract a Mod's attention, but the only difference I can see would be Mods going straight to a 'problem' post. It wouldn't give it any more chance of being deleted or reprimanded, only a location for the Mod to go to.

It would simply kill debates.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

If anything, the option to lock one's own thread.

Not to delete, but to lock would be good.

Also 'report this thread (or post) to an online moderator' button is pretty needed.

But even that is too much. Once a thread is created it is the community's, not the thread creators.

You should be able to delete your own thread. You can do it at ultimate-guitar.com.

What would be the point in creating a thread to get other people's opinions?

I could see this being used too much or used incorrectly, the moderators are doing a fine job the way they are running things now.

No. It'll get abused. Like JaF said, if I dont like your comment, I'm gonna delete it.

It's not a bad idea... it just needs a few adjustments.

That'd be really stupid. This hole place is a forum dedicated to discussions and debates. What would the point of your suggestion be?

l don't like it.

Ten minutes later...

Would you look at that? l've been banned from your thread!

The 'lock your own thread' would be useful, and the potential for abuse is pretty low. The only way I can think of is to create a post, then lock it, so no-one can reply. Which is kinda pointless, unless you wanna say 'Shiska is a pegboy' and then lock it before someone says 'No, u'.

You want to know what it'd be like to have no moderators on this site? Try this easy to prepare simulation.
Step 1: Procure yourself an intact box, something a fridge or similarly large appliance.
Step 2: Fill cardboard box halfway with feral cats. One or two should be rabid.
Step 3: Climb inside the box, closing the top behind you.
Step 4: Begin screaming and thrashing wildly at the cats.

It just wouldn't work. It is a neat idea, but when every member has the ability to just delete posts or block members from their threads flame wars take on a whole new meaning. And what if someone politely disagree's with the OP and his post gets deleted? Discussion would become difficult because no one would really know what had been said since posts may have been deleted.

And the blocking could become a way for members to hate on each other and block people they just don't like. That isn't the way Bungie.net is supposed to be.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I think that is a pretty bad idea. We have moderators for a reason.

i think the lock your own threads would be helpfull but if you could "moderate" your own threads unless people where really open to an argument then noting would ever be discussed

Then idiots would make threads and block everyone who disagreed. It would kill forums like optimatch where debates are common

Then simply only have the option to lock or delete the entire thread.

The ability to lock your own thread, along with the already existing option to edit your own posts, would be great.

To prevent spam from ruining threads.

That's what moderators are for, and even they get overzealous it seems sometimes. I'd rather keep the number of people with power to a minimum.
