Why 500 years from now are we still using primitive pump shotguns? Maybe bungie didn't want to go all high tech and make it overdone. But I know pump in halo looks way cooler than like the shotgun in red faction 2.

Someone set up us the bomb
on XBL i'm Gangsta Assasin

you WOULD assume we would be using semi-auto shotguns in the future... oh well. pumps ARE more reliable, i guess. less moving parts.

Simple fact is pumps are more durable plus higher caliber rounds can be fired.

If you would like to be technical I'd have to ask why we're still using cased ammunition or why the Mjolnir armour doesn't have advanced optics and thermal imaging 500 years from now. Why is it that an M1-Abrams tank can kick the Scorpion's buttocks when the Scorpion has 500 years of technology on it.

Why aren't the marines aren't trained anywhere near as well as our own armed forces in covering each other's backs and overlapping their zones of fire?

actualy i think the shotty in this halo IS automatic (look at a screen one of the MC's in a multi pic is droping a shotgun and its not like the old one)

heres my theory, you know how in 2552 human space travel is soo much more advanced than ours today, so maybe they focused most of their research on space travel, and The Mjolnir (spelling) product, that they didnt really need advanced warfare technology ( that is until the covenant came) because before they were just fightin rebels and they had the Master Cheif to deal with them.

Well we've been using gunpowder for over two hundred years now, and to get down to it, the whole idea of that kind of projectiles is very primitive, using expanded gases to propell a piece of metal, its so basic and simple.

I think Bungie wants to balance weapons (pump-action delay) more than make sense. After all, if humans didn't use cased rounds, what would they be using? That in and of itself is somewhat of a predicament to think of because lasers are pretty typical and there would be no distinction between human and Covenant weapons technology. On the other hand, I think Bungie should bring in a few alternative weapons for the humans (sonics people, we have to have at least ONE sonic rifle), but try not to think of what they do with Halo2 tech in a logical sense.

-once you really think about it, kinda' funny that weapons we're developing right now are more advanced than those of Halo's 2552. Directed energy (lasers), sonics, 'smart' weapons and so forth that we are testing now all put the Chief's arsenal to shame-

i think all of those 500 years of technology in the scorpion worked on making a magical device that makes it where it cant run out of bullets or rockets
u cant tell me thats not a plus, lol

Oh my goodness.. you haven't heard of Caseless Ammunition? Where have you been the last ten years? Check out the G-11 Assault Rifle.

After that check out MetalStorm.com and check out the world's first totally electronic gun with absolutely no moving parts.

I'll skip out illustrating why most directed energy weapons suck :)

Have you seen the shotgun from the new movie The Punisher? It looks like a fully auto shotgun! That would be awesome to use in halo 2! I am kind of hoping for a grenade launcher like they had in Terminator 2!

Yeah, so you got an automatic shotgun in Halo multiplayer and then everyone gets screwed. The RoF would make it even more of a juggernaught in close ranges. Even when you are in the two shot kill radius of the shotgun you'd die almost immediatly because they can shoot so quickly! With a pump action the RoF decreases allowing you to shoot back before the second shot hits you!
We have pump action shotguns for balance only!

Simply because the human weapons are supposed to be familar to the player so that you can pick up and use it easily? I think.
