Subject: Debate forum...yes, really.....

I've challenged my beliefs. What is the book about?

I find that this is usually untrue. If religious people honestly, diligently and intelligently challenged their beliefs, there would be no religious people.

We need one. Debates are fun, so long as they don't get out of hand. I've noticed people like to debate in the flood from time to time, but the fact that it says "say your stupid things here" is kinda...flame...baiting....just because there's people that get offended if someone has different views than them.

Also, if you'll notice, certain groups of people go to certain forum areas more often than others. I see a lot of intelligent people in the septagon, but I'm sure most of them would like to talk about something more than "maybe bungie should change this next...." and keep some of the more intelligent members occupied, so long as it's clarified that it's for civilized debates ONLY.

And please, don't tell me it wouldn't work here, I've seen it done on forums with complete jerks and idiots, but it's always the more mature ones that debate, not argue :P

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

There are several groups that welcome debates...

groups die too easily, and not everyone's willing to join a group. I wanna see it on the main forum, dammit!!

unfortunately, groups are too easily dominated by one side or another, making for boring circle-jerks that just end up debating the morality of abortion, no matter what the starting topic was.

I'd like to see this in public, but, the average member is lacking for such a thing. We'd need like a 10:1 mod:member ratio for it to work.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

Hm...it would be an interesting idea to try out, but I'm not sure if the general public would be able to handle it...it would be a hot spot for spammers, anddisagreements would start lots of nasty flame wars. Anyways, you can already debate almost anything besides politics and religion in the flood now, as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

Go Chiefs

Leave it for the groups. Some mods do a fairly good job of pointing people to such groups but it would be cool if more mods locked topics with something along the lines of "take this to the Black Chapter/Body Politic/DC/etc."

I think it's a bad idea to assume that the majority of the bnet community has anything to offer a debate.
There are a few, but with every debate you'd have the same handful of competent members debating. The same could be done in a group, without all the others constantly trying to rain on the rhetorical parade.

Debation is a product of heavy discussting. When two people of similar interest compile ideas into each other sometimes a comfortation erupts. This is generally frowned upon for public viewing but certain audiences get their jollies from such extraterrestrial activities.

... what?

Dr Woot, we of the community have seen your dire dedication to this cause... And here it is, Bungie's very own debate forum.

If you go to the 10+ page thread about abortion, you will see the stupidity of the masses today. This person said that life begins at conception, but when the core of the issue is raised, he then implores "not to go into specifics". So, what, he wants us to blindly accept his views without questioning or examining anything? That is not debate, that is irrational, emotional blabber that is not worthy of being posted.

What you should do, is edit your reply, so that it's on-topic to this thread, such as saying, "which is a reason why there shouldn't be a debate forum here," at the end.

I've always been one to enjoy a good debate, but an entire forum dedicated to debating might not be such a good thing.

I think a private forum group is your best bet woot for a controlled environment to conduct fair and sensical debates. That way you have the power to invite the members who you think would be a good fit, conversely be able to kick people out if their not following the rules.

An entire forum for debating? It would look just like all the other forums here on B.net, controlled insanity.

If you do start a private group, keep me in mind. Because everyone knows I'm a master debater and a cunning linguist.

Like when you tried to debate that you weren't as straight as a line, but I proved you wrong. It seems the filter has been updated since the last time I've been on here long enough to use vulgar language like "as straight as a circle".

At least I can still call you a big jerkface Marc.

that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

I for one, support and agree with the idea of a "debate forum".

I suppose that it could be called "The Civil War", or something...

But I think that if it could work if we actually had more Moderators like Evilcam, who don't sit on their ass's and do nothing but complain when someone does something wrong...

I mean, At least Evilcam has reasons, and states those reasons when he locks someones thread, or does something of some effect to all.

I'm saying, that If we had more people like Evilcam, that could moderator a proper debate forum, that could be open to discussion and debate about various things.

another thing, possibly those new and better Moderators in question could ban together and come up with say, a weekly topic, in which a thread would be dedicated to debate over.

let me say that I did not mean to insult any of the B.net moderators, or call them lazy, its just that Evilcam is much more active, and actually has effects on people.

... Moderators in question could ban together...

It's our favourite kind of banning.

Anyway, this thread proves the fact that we don't need a special forum for debating. We're already debating in this thread. If you want to debate about something like politics or religion, that you can't debate about in the Flood, go to a group, or another site.
