Subject: Halo PC: Problem with wireless controllers?

Ok so, I excitedly went out and purchased the wireless 360 controller adapter for PC. After short install it was ready to go. I was ecstatic to see the communicator works, and functions as a mic, something I've been meaning to get. So it killed two birds with one stone. The only problem I have.... is its main purpose.... video games. I started Halo up, and after a good 12 minutes of setting up the controls for it, I was finally set to play. As soon as I joined my first game, I found a problem . The movement was not working correctly, whenever I strafed left, it wouldn't stop moving till several seconds after I stopped strafing left. Odd part is, None of the other directions or buttons have problems. I have yet to be able to play another game I can test it in, to see if its just halo. However I tried both controllers I have, and both do the same thing. Of course xbox.com next to useless as far as support goes.... so does anyone here have a suggestion? I haven't tried recalibrating the controller, but I did reset it to defaults several times.

Calibrating might fix it. That's generally something you have to do when you install a new gaming peripheral. You know, to make it function properly?

No. It's has nothing to do with calibration. The thumb-stick gets slightly off-set to the left when you move to the left, then let go.

That's why the game has to have full X360 controller support to prevent this. The official Microsoft drivers don't compensate. That's why a few nice folk created custom drivers.

I was asking the same question, and a nice fella answered (and solved) my problem in this thread.

But this is for the X360 controller, you said it was a wireless controller? Then (I think) you'll have to find custom drivers that interface with the wireless USB device dongle.

Halo is telling you "use a mouse and keyboard, this is a PC FPS, noob".
Don't forget the fact that there is no auto-aim in Halo PC that is ever so clearly noticeable in the Xbox version, so you're pretty much screwed for using a controller...

It sure would improve your console game though.

Heh...I know one time someone said to me, "If you're so good at PC games, why can't you use a dumb controller."

It's like asking a goldfish to swim in gasoline since it performs so well in water.

I would certainly try recalibrating the controller to see if it helps. Also, I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but when I'm on Xfire while in game and happen to be holding down a key, I keep moving in that direction until I either type something or hit escape and count to three.
