Is there a timetable yet for when B.net will be updated? How long do we have to back up private groups? If you haven't read the weekly update, please do so now. Thanks Bungie for making a commitment to improve the site.

You have more than two weeks, and less than a few months. There will be more warnings about it. Focus your efforts on anything of value in the user resources. They are most subject to data loss, as they need a bunch of work. Of course, that's not to say there will be data loss. We just don't know at this point.

Forums, group news, and group membership will likely not be affected (although they'll look different). But to be safe, anything you want to make sure won't get lost should be backed up somewhere. We cannot absolutely guarentee anything, especially with groups. We don't like the current state of groups, and we plan on working to make them interesting again (back in the good old days).

Oh, and all the old themes won't work anymore. Sorry about that. But the new design is waaaaaaaaaay easier to make themes with. I'm sure we'll put together some kind of ThemeBuilder again.

Frankie said the groups would be gone for a period of time. If there are any Bungie employees reading this, is there any reasonable guess as to how long they will be gone? Should it be less than a week?

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

I'm just happy we finally have new word of this. I remember a few months back, Achronos mentioning that we might be losing our old friend - the bottom Navbar. Now that we have a notice, it's good to see these things taking fruitition.

Although - will we have to re-register? I'm guessing not, seeing as the groups are staying intact for the most part.

I just hope the layout of the site will remain dark, and keep the same color-attributes. I like it this way :)

Bright = bad.

I hope we can have support for Fire Fox and other various browsers in the future :\

Because the "chars left" thing at the bottom is constantly at 10000, and some of the text doesn't look as nice as IE :\

I would say so. I think it's just the groups that will be affected [most].

The actual upgrade will be fairly quick - you won't notice any downtime, just everything being "read-only" and then suddenly everything changing.

But groups will be switched off for a while - we're going to take the time to get them right. Unfortunately, the way things worked out schedule wise we have to switch to the new design before groups can be worked on. The new design can't be postponed just for groups for a few reasons, so you'll just have to make do without them for a while.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

Will you please accept a pile of themes this time around? I like messing about with them and they're not being accepted anymore.

I honestly don't know yet. We haven't had a chance to even complete the design, let alone implementation. Groups have been last on the priority list recently because, quite frankly, a very small percentage of users actually use them. Part of it is a self-fulfilling prophecy - groups are not discoverable, and don't offer much except for a free forum. But a large part is that groups have lost their purpose since Halo 2 was released, because groups were originally supposed to be used for organizing Halo LAN parties (and they were, to great effect). But they need a new purpose. Quite honestly, groups are not worth the time to work on unless we give them a new purpose. For every minute I spend working on them, that's a minute I don't have to work on Halo 3 related stuff.

We have some ideas to give groups a new purpose, but it will take some time to realize them.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Wow new Hawtness already!

I'll miss the old Bungie. *Cries and will where a black suit that day* *RIP*

Nah, can't wait for the new features, I'm sure it's going to be cool. I just hope there is a same dark blue background, so it's easier on the eyes =)

Oh and I guess HFCS will have to be rebuilt, maybe us members can sift through the ruins and find something worth value!

What would be the best way to go about backing up group related things? Word...Wordperfect?

Is there any idea on what things would be affected? Do I need to copy my member list just in case they are dropped? Do I need to copy all of my thread topics and the responses within? Do I need to copy all the articles?

I know this was sort-of addressed before, just looking for a more specific answer.

Have you considered functions such as "PM all users" for group admins, and other things people have asked for? The other ones I remember are colored text and blam filter control within groups, but I could easily see those not being implimented.

My suggestion would be to only to what's absolutely necessary. Stickies, maybe the home page, and threads that are both important and on-going. You can also "save page as word document", but that could run up space quickly. It wouldn't be efficient to back up all the news updates, but if you had a lot of time (and spare memory), I suppose you could do that.

It's only been 34 months since the last major site overhaul. 'Already' implies a shorter time span.

I am afraid that I don't get your point.

A myth if I ever saw one. There's no real evidence that he actually exists, just like there's no proof that Elvis is really dead.
