So is the Navigation Bar going to Hawaii for a permanent vacation?

No. It's going to die and never come back.

Thank god. That thing is by far the ugliest thing I've ever seen on a website (despite its usefulness). The rest of the website is fine, to me, but that navbar.... *shivers*.

My vote for the name of the new site is New Hawtness 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I wonder if the time away from the chapters will cause even more traffic than usual on the main forums. People have to get their b.net fix somewhere after all. I don't see how it couldn't vastly increase the traffic, unless all the chapter goers simply stop logging in for awhile.

Achronos has been pretty forth coming about this, which is surprising. The Bungie.net Overlord actually telling us something about the progress towards the upgrade; and a bit about the secrets of new awesomeness too. Your breaking the mold here, and it makes me happy.

Less image heavy eh? I assume your talking about the navbar, and the little images that make up most everything. Hopefully, that will put a stop to the occasional cache and loading errors. I'm not a big fan of excessive java, but I trust the web team, so I think it will wow me when I finally get to see it.

I literally can't wait.

-edited for syntax errors-

I do think that time away from groups will add traffic to the main forums. I am looking forward to whatever Achronos has planned. Making it easier to create themes will be a major plus. I hope there will still be old school themes like Oni and Myth.

Groups have been last on the priority list recently because, quite frankly, a very small percentage of users actually use them.

That's a shame because we've enjoyed ours now going into the third year.

Aw nevermind.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

:'(

On that note, I guess this is cause for celebration. I look forward to checking out the new group features!

I agree. I come here largely because of the private groups.

The only thing I've ever used the Navbar for is the Webcams.
Anyway, Achronos is usually very tight-lipped about things, the fact that he's said so much indicates that there will be much more massive changes than anyone is anticipating.
I just hope it stays blue.

I forsee 7's and Mister Chiefs everywhere, and for the color, bright pink especially for some of the more femine staff members of Bungie.

Oh yeah, and the deletion of the very large groups. =]

Man, I'm pretty psyched for this site overhaul. It sounds like it's going to be awesome.
Also, I haven't seen so many ninjas, master ninjas and Overlords post in one thread in a long time. It just adds more to the awesomeness for me.

Javascript, not Java. Huge, gigantic difference.

And of course it will still be HTML (technically, XHTML) and CSS. The only real alternative is a Flash website. Ugh, I think I threw up a bit in mouth just thinking about that...

will it no longer be html css. and what are you using java for now you realy sparked my interest
can you give an example of a site that looks simaler or at least has some simmaler aspects to the new site?

Flash websites are terrible. This is why I like Bungie.net.. It just works, and isn't silly with .. uh.. Flash.

The site has not ever cared what Operating System you are running, only what browser you have.

I don't like Java either.

But we don't use Java - we're using Javascript (also known as JScript). And I'm sure you do like it - you just don't notice it unless it is being used poorly (which makes you think you don't like it).

It was actually flogged and then loaded into a prototype giant slingshot. I won't say what the result was, but it involved fire.
