Javascript, not Java. Huge, gigantic difference.

And of course it will still be HTML (technically, XHTML) and CSS. The only real alternative is a Flash website. Ugh, I think I threw up a bit in mouth just thinking about that...

Posted by: Durendul
will it no longer be html css. and what are you using java for now you realy sparked my interest
can you give an example of a site that looks simaler or at least has some simmaler aspects to the new site?

I agree. Flash websites are unreliable and have bad load times.

I like how Bungie loads much faster than other forums like Gamespot. Gamespot has a lot of nice bells and whistles, but I think that Bungie is faster and more reliable.

It was actually flogged and then loaded into a prototype giant slingshot. I won't say what the result was, but it involved fire.

No. It's going to die and never come back.

It was?! But... It's still here! OH SHI..

The navbar has been gone for months now.

We're just under a lot of lag.

I'll be on my own side.

Ironically, I started using the navbar a lot more recently, to find the classic games page. Oh well. It IS rather conspicuous, but I usually minimize it.

Personally, I'd change the navbar layout to be vertical, and put it in that big empty space on the right side of the screen.

Really, that Navbar is nice.. I'm not sure why it's going. I hope there's something just as convenient.. I mean, from that bar I can find users/friends, gamertags, stats, go directly to specific parts of the site quickly.. I think it's quite ingenious. Something twice as ingenious should replace it, I would hope. ;)

First of all, thanks for all of the information Achronos.

But a large part is that groups have lost their purpose since Halo 2 was released, because groups were originally supposed to be used for organizing Halo LAN parties (and they were, to great effect). But they need a new purpose. Quite honestly, groups are not worth the time to work on unless we give them a new purpose.

I'm sure that you mean groups in general need a new universal purpose. There are many specific groups which have not lost their individual purpose and are still enjoyable and useful. Although I certainly look forward to any changes or improvments that will make both the main forums and group pages easier to use.

I actually like the navbar and its alignment to the site. Also that little thing to the side that makes it look like its attached to the site. If its not going to be like it is now and its not going to be vertical and I pray its not going to be some sort of pop-up or pop-out thing then I can't imagine what your going to do with it except get ride of it and do something completely different.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I just want to say thanks for this thread. It has been very helpful in determining the direction that Gods Prophet and I are going to take in backing up The Guide. Which, by it's very nature (7th Column and b.net/community information archive), is going to be one of the groups hurt most by data loss.

So thanks to the posters who have asked the insightful questions that I wanted to ask, and to Achronos for answering them.
