In the video options, Specular and some dumb option below it is greyed out. My question is why. My video card is a 64MB NVidia GeForce MX series.

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

It is because your video card does not support those features. Any of the MX series are just dx7 cards.

I have DX9.0c if that's what the dx7 is. And my card supports T&L, and on every other PC game of mine sepcular is supported and it can be turned on.

Your card is old. And I don't mean older brother old. I mean grandma old.

You may have Dx9, but the card only runs dx7, that's why those options are greyed out. Besides, I've never noticed a graphical difference with specular on or off, except for a hit to my framerate.

Specular lighting makes everything have a shiny glassy or plasticky look to it.

Ummm, your graphics card or DirectX settings might have something to do with it.

In either case, go to Start > Run and type in "dxdiag", and you can figure out the rest there.

His card simply does not support the shaders required to run specular.

Correct. Sorry bout this, but your only option is to either upgrade or to build/buy a new one; I would strongly suggest the latter. The last thing you want to do is get a l33t new GPU and get it bottlenecked by the CPU on your current compy.

I know I had the same problem with my old laptop...it sucked, and there was nothing I could do about it. I'm with you.

It supports specular on my Doom 3 PC copy though.

That's because it probably uses different specular techniques on Doom3 rather then on Halo.

If you have specular on in D3, someone, does you framerate go down?

Yeah it does, significantly.
