Okay i bought Halo for the PC used from my friend.
Now when i tried to setup halo CE it asked me for a product key.
I typed in the one on the boxy type thing.
and it keeps saying it is 'invalid'
my friend says its cause he used it for his CE halo.
So is their a way of getting a new product key?

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

Buy your own copy.

And no, we're not giving out product keys.

And finally, read the stickies.

You can phone Microsoft and ask for one, but don't hold your breath. You should have gone to Walmart and bought a copy, they're only $20 and you get a fresh CD Key.

As it stands, no one here will help you get a new one, and most likely you'll end up blacklisted by the end of the day.

If you have a correct CD key, it shouldn't say "invalid". Are you sure you are typing the right series of numbers/letters? You type whats on the yellow sticker on the CD sleeve.

Yeah if you have the same cd key it won't give you any problems until you try to join/host a game.

Because we all know being used games is illegal? ;)

You most likely need to pay more attention to what you're typing in from the yellow sticker.

Owning a used game isn't illegal, if he can prove it. Asking for CD Keys however, is against forum rules and will result in a blacklist.

That's like saying, "I just bought a new pair of shorts, does that mean I have to buy another copy of Halo?"

Of course not. What makes you think that changing a CPU will force you to buy a new copy?

From what you said in your original post, It's a problem with CE, rather than the basic Halo install, right? As a Macuser, I know little about CE, but I assume setting up CE requires you to enter your CD key and it registers you online, correct?

Your friend had already installed CE and entered the CD key, right? So when you go to register it says that key has already been registered.

Go to the place you got the CE download from and see if there's a way to move the game to a new computer. There should be, because if your friend had kept the game and upgraded to a new machine, he should not have to buy a new disc to get a fresh key.
