Subject: Emotions on the forums

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

Posted by: Achronos
As long as I have a say in it, no, there will never be emoticons.

Never. They're annoying and ugly.

Posted by: Toothpick
I just wanted to know if emotions on the forums were ever considered because sometimes the only way I could truly express myself, is by using one of those little emotions, such as..

:) ----smiley
:( ----sad face
:O ----surprised face
:l ----wtf face
>:( ----mad face

Maybe a thumbs up, thumbs down icon too..

Theres plenty more, but I would like to know if anyone else would like to see these, or any others, on the forums. Could this be something we could see soon, or is there no chance of it?

well then a couple questions.

how old are you?
When do you plan on retiring? (or quit your job)

just joking I hate them to, but I do admit being able to post a beer icon was a great feature of the xbox forums.

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

Hopefully if Achronos ever leaves, he'll find someone like-minded with regards to uncluttered forums to take his place.

Text emoticons are perfectly acceptable; yellow faces winking out of the page are garish and brash.

I must agree with SS Zag, Achronos, and all the Mods: Smiley faces are ugly and obnoxious. And I never, ever want to see them on B.net. Ever.

That's why I disable them on MSN ;)

They belong in a Nintendo forum. Halo is a mature game and we don't need all the smiley faces.

I'll be on my own side.

It's not a matter of maturity. It's a matter of whether or not we want a bunch of brightly colored happy faces being spammed all over our forums.

T-bagging, high frequencing of cussing, a vast assortment of mom jokes, racial slurs to the max, and arrent use of "n00b"... You're a funny guy.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I love how everbody joins with Achronos and destroys their own oppinions no matter what they really think.

I don't think they're a bad idea. I'm in several other forums where they have emoticons, they really aren't that bad.

Of course, Bungie.net can only seem to attract the most imature members on the planet and it would all go south. Even though posts full of emoticons would be considered spam and the forums have plenty of moderators.

Oh well, not like my oppinion matters anyway.

I've never liked emoticons, and said so even before I knew anyone else's stance on them. I use "=" instead of ":" for the exact reason that I want to bypass them in most circumstances. The one emoticon I like is :O on MSN... but then again, I don't like the fact that :o gives the same thing.

In addition to the fact that I think most are ugly, I'd rather have people try to be creative and use their own, instead of relying on presets.

But like you said... it's not like anyone's opinions matter in this case.

After reading alot of the "We want pictures, emoticons, etc etc" threads, I have come up with a suitable motto for the Bungie.net forums.

"Bungie.net forums, for lovers of text." Elaborate if necessary.

And I don't think we need emoticons. /topic

They do look ugly, and I really hate those talking emoticons. The simple :) or :( is ok though.

Halo related emoticons would be cool.

A happy chief head or a sad chief head would be cool.... eventhough he can't show any emotions...

The reason bungie.net is a great forum is simple: Achronos is a philosopher king.

These forums are unique and well-ruled. However, they need another ILB to really shine once again.

Emoticons hurt my brain. Every time I see one I am sent into a mindless rage and pound my head into my keyboard.

It just ruins my whole day...

Emoticons are for MSN-using 10 year olds.
Do not want on forums.

Every forum I see abuses emoticons (putting 100 :D's in one post about an image is not appropriate). Not only that, but dialup users have to wait for all of the little bums to load.

  • 02.20.2007 7:53 PM PDT

If we had emoticons on these forums, there won't be any moderators.
