People need to start looking beyond their own horizons. You may not find it offensive, but others might.

Take me for example. I am not offended by AIDS jokes, but I think they're highly insensitive and stupid, and should be stopped.

Making you cry is pretty easy Marc. A bunch of racist jokes usually do the trick, lol.

That was sarcasm for those of you who take everything to heart, even on the internet. This is "in Marc's words" serious subject. In my opinion, people need to be a little more accepting of pain because that's what life is. If you're insulted by something, get on with your life, it's all in the past. Don't let others bring you down.

Sorry if this part of my post gets this thread in trouble (Yo James, I give you permission to edit this part, lol). I think this is a major problem in the United States. We're too afraid to hurt everyone's feelings so instead of standing up for what, in my opinion is right, we do what's politically correct. We don't base anything on what this country was when it was founded anymore, but what everyone else thinks we should do. Instead of looking out for numero uno (the United States as itself), we look to other countries first. I say "humbug" to that, this country is going to die if we let everyone just walk right over us.

*sniffle* (for Marc)

Maybe we should ban all forum posting, so we don't hurt the feelings of the blind......

What a smart ass but hahaha ;)

I don't think it's necessary to be talking about aids. Would you say to someone, "Haha, you have cancer" on a forum? Probably not. If you would, then you are an idiot.

How in any way are they forced to see anything on this forum? They signed up for the forum, they post here and browse at their own expense. You be so extreme because it all comes down to the fact that removing it from this site wont change anything. If you have AIDS or know someone who has AIDS, you obviously have bigger problems in your life than fighting against idiot 15 year olds who don't know what they are saying.

If you are that offended, then stop going into those sections, complain about the member to the administration. What I fail to see is how talking about AIDS can be demeaning to those with AIDS. Should we stop talking about poor people becuase we offend them when we do? Should we stop talking about Bill Gates and all other steriotypes out there? How about we block n00b becuase it is demeaning to new players?

There are endless ways, but just because people have a certain disease means they deserve special treatment? HEY! I have ADHD!!! Its demeaning to me for you to talk about ADD and stuff, BAN IT!!!

We can go on for hours and hours until every joke on the planet is killed because we cannot talk about things such as this. Im not saying its funny to joke about AIDS, but people will do it despite us banning it here. I think this is just an "I don't like it, so lets get rid of it" thread as well, because any true AIDS victim or friend of one really wouldn't care.

Unseal the Hushed Casket

God forbid that we offend anybody......

Maybe I should be offended that I play a game where I kill other people!

MLG is for kids that are too fat to excel at real sports

New Flood the home of all things random

OMG, gaming for the fun of it.

I understand the point the Anonymous poster is saying but i don't think the people who say *gives AIDS* mean to use it in an offensive way. They're not ridiculing the people who have AIDS there just using it as an immature insult. It could be any disease cancer, lepracy, whatever. But I understand that if you have been affected by AIDS then this use is trivialising a horrible condition and could be construed as offensive.

There's a point when "Someone might get offended" goes too far.

you've obviously never lived in "Politically Correct" Britain then.

heck, you're not allowed to say "blackboard" [racist] or "brainstorm" [epileptic people] or even "Baa baa black sheep" [racist]. Its "Baa baa rainbow sheep" in schools nowadays FFS.

interestingly, you can say whiteboard.

However, i take the same stance as you - until someone is being directly offended then joking around shouldn't be a problem.

The AIDS jokes should be banned, it's just ridiculous.

Also, I have some advice for your friend, ICEMAN:

Welcome to the real World, people don't always play nice here.

If someone offends you or makes an awful joke, PM a mod and they will deal with it. Otherwise, send the person a PM, most people are reasonable.

Personally I find getting offended about things like this is silly. We all have less than great things in our past but dont let them ruin other people's fun.

I can understand your concern, definately and I would deal with any situations if I were contacted but I think some people need to concern themselves with more important things that 'he said' matters over an internet forum.

I'm off to dissolve in my assignments.

The AIDS jokes will die out and become old meme, just like the Chuck Norris jokes.

Sure, people still say Chuck jokes nowdays, but no one laughs.

I think he means that kid in the Flood named Teh__Maleman that runs around the forums typing *Gives AIDz0rz to _____* and such crap like that.

We all know who is at hand here, no need whatsoever to point him out from a group.

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

I'm getting slightly irritated by these threads.

There have been a few threads by various members in the Septagon ostensibly about serious issues; they quickly devolve into finger-pointing and attacking of individual members. There's a rule that forbids threads about individual users, and these threads seem to be a way around it...

There was one a while ago where the OP was "concerned" about rude pictures being made in ASCII where he and others (from the Flood) seemed to solely attack one person (JAVA). Ditto the thread about multiple accounts. Then another, about *kicks bucket* etc. being added to the end of posts - that focused solely on one member soon after the OP.

This one is another example of a non-issue that is being used, apparently, to target one person (Teh_Maleman in this case).

If you have an issue with one member, tell a moderator. Don't come and try to whip up a frenzy then direct the witch-hunt at a single member.

It's not clever, it's not subtle, so just stop it.

Now I realise this thread may be an exception (the OP in this case being worthy of the benefit of the doubt) but I wonder if the person who messaged him suggested it was posted here, in the Septagon? And now, again, there's one member being singled out as an "evil-doer".

You say tomato; I say potato.

A lot of people make fun of things that have a personal significance to myself. I think there is a step in maturity where you find a way to handle offended feelings.

Aids "jokes" could be a bit harmful to an immarure veiwer. Younger vistitors of this site may not understand what exactly the virus is. Ignorance like this could lead to judgement.

This isn't your job, this isn't your workplace. You don't have to be here.

As long as people don't make fun of a specific person for having aids then I don't see a huge problem with it. Sure it's immature, but so what. Deal with it or leave the forums.

You obviously don't post in the Flood too often. There's a running joke between 4-5 members throwing Aids jokes back and forth at each other.

Personally I don't see why the word "g'ay" is blammed out and not Aids. I've yet to read an informative or historical post on Aids, people on this site us the word Aids to say g'ay.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

I dont see what the big deal is with the AIDS posts (I dont say jokes because a joke usually denotes some type of humor). I dont find the humor in them, but Im not offended either.

How can anyone take themselves seriously if they are offended by something that was written by an immature 12 year old? These are the same kids who keep filming when thier friends blow themselves up by making dry ice bombs out of 5 gallon water bottles and then sit on top of it.

These kids barely pass the minimum requirement of "special needs".

This thread should be locked and/or deleted as it only gives the idiots who do post it the attention the so desperately crave.

I feel as if they are using it as a joke amongst one another and it really is not offensive towards anyone else. So why ruin there fun? I feel as if this is more of a personal agenda against someone than a problem with what someone is saying.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Yes, AIDS is an insensitive thing to say. But so are many things. To me, getting offended about AIDS references is no different than getting offended over firearm references (of which I'm sure you'll find more than AIDS references). And indeed, in the United States, firearms kill more people than AIDS per year... by about 20,000.

I do not get offended over anything that some immature anonymous internet person says on an anonymous forum that's just supposed to be for fun. And in my opinion, nobody else should, either.

It seems to me the kids knows someone with AIDS. It's rather rediculoud in my opinion. The dude it against making fun of AIDS. yet it's extremely like he enjoys playing war games where we can slaughter Germans. Call of Duty anyone? It isn't an issue in my opinion. It's something fun to make fun of, just like war games are. They can be offensive, but don't really mean anything.

Is it the internet-AIDS fad in The Flood? Lol. That was funny; Maleman infected me.

I do post in the fourms and i thought i remember seeing soemthing but the problem here just like in other places one thing is said in a jokeful manner and everyone takes it out of porporation and its stupid. Even on a fourm if people cant joke then people A. Need to Grow up or B. look at there lives and see where there going because complaining about what someone said wont get you anywhere.

People will be offended about basically anything and its hard to get anything done in the world without some group having to say something about it.

I don't really think people using the term AIDS are going to be banned for posting lame jokes about it. It would seem that the majority of people in The Flood, where this originates, simply don't appear offended by it. If the majority of people aren't offended by something, it'll have a tough time being banned/looked upon with enough disfavor to stop appearing daily.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Did you report it to the mods?

Seriously, guys, we're not going to have a specific rule for every last type of idiocy people come up with. I mean, the rules cannot be more simple: "Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice."

So, if you think something is offensive, send an email to the mods (or PM one). If they agree, the poster will be dealt with. But we're not going to add a rule for every specific type of spam.

Oh, and this discussion is over. There is an established procedure for this type of issue (ping a mod about offending posts). And to the original poster - next time tell the person you're posting for to post his own thoughts, because right now, I simply consider it to be you not wanting to take responsibility for your own opinion.

BUt they do not get banned for it.
