This only applies if you are running the server on the same PC as you are running the client game.

First - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST RUNNING A SERVER AND CLIENT ON THE SAME PC . Halo is very CPU intensive running two process of it - the dedicated server AND the client will cause warping and lag for everyone that is playing. You are better off just starting a user hosted game. If you want to run a dedicated server run it on it's own PC with nothing else.

However, if you insist on running both. You will need to start the dedicated server on a different port. The Halo Game Client uses ports 2302 for Server port, and port 2303 for Client port.

If you try to run the dedicated server with default settings AND the Client game (with default settings) then the Server ports will conflict. I recommend telling the dedicated server to use port 2312, but any will do. You tell the dedicated server which port to use on the command line with the directive -port 2312.

Then to connect to your server with the client enter the IP:port of your PC.

Means the server you're trying to connect to isn't up to date (lower than 1.06/1.07, as they both work with an updated game), if you couldn't figure it out from the "newer version" bit.

Well. We've gathered so far that the problem is that your game version is newer than the server version.

So, what must the solution be?

Update the server! Hooray.

Only you can't downgrade. Well you could I guess, but then you couldn't play online.

For crying out loud! Download the 1.07 server update! Use your head and search for it if my links are broken (worked fine at the time).

I swear this is [maybe] the last time I bother.

You know Lt. Mays, I understand your having troubles with this whole DS ordeal, and you're frustrated about it. I wanted to say this earlier in Xfire, but I stopped myself, thinking it was too rude, but I'll say it now:

Dude, ever heard of the phrase, "thank you"? I remember doing all that I can to help you in both Xfire and Teamspeak to get all your ports right, helping you copy/paste the target line commands, set up your rcon, etc. etc., which took nearly an hour off my time (I didn't mind how long it took, I wanted to help you out). After it was all set, you couldn't join it, and all said was, "wtf man, it didnt work, lawl oh wel". That's it??? I'm sorry it didn't come out the way you expected it to be, but it was an eye straining procedure for me, just so I can get it right for you. Yet, no thank you's? The only "thanks so much" was when you PMed me when I agreed to to help.

And now here, everyone who posted, especially UXB, did the best they can to explain to you, and all you could blurt out is "wtf, your link is broken", or "it didnt work dude...". You're not king, or a god. We don't have to help you at all, yet we choose to. You should be thankful instead of "mildly complaining" about how everyone's suggestions didn't work.

Think about it.
