Subject: Halo In The Flood

We have our Halo forums, and we have The Flood, our off-topic forum. Sometimes, they cross-contaminate each other. We get off-topic posts in New Mombasa (all the time, really), and we get some Halo in The Flood. Normally, in these cases, the "changeling" post is locked.

But what I wonder is, why would Halo discussion be locked in The Flood? Yes, there are several Halo forums, but sometimes, even those aren't enough to suit our purpose for discussion. The Flood is kind of the "anything goes" forum. So, why isn't Halo one among the "anything" in "anything goes"?

If we posted topics that belonged in other forums in the Flood, it would defeat the purpose of having other forums in the first place.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Some mods have said that they think some Halo topics do fit in the Flood. But personally, I disagree. There are enough Halo forums. I think that if what you want to post doesn't fit well into any one of them, then just pick one. It would fit there better than it would in the Flood, in my opinion.

It depends on what the thread creator is talking about.

* If he's talking about Halo 3, locked or moved.

* If he's talking about Halo 2 multiplayer, locked or moved.

* If he's talking about matchmaking, locked or moved.

You get the idea. Most of the Halo threads that live in the Flood are ones like "Who would win, MC or Wolverine", etc. If it's a random topic that has to do with Halo, it won't get locked. Just the ones that belong in another forum, or are inappropriate altogether get locked.

That's what I'm talking about. I see a lot of those random Halo topics in the Flood, and they end up locked.

Here are two that were moved or locked:

Locked because it discussed the X button to stab people

Moved because the person was advertising for a local MLG tournament

Now for this post, I looked at the first 15 pages of the Flood. Not one thread about Halo was wrongfully locked. Looks like good moderating to me.

I await your apology.

I go in the Flood to see off topic stuff.. not Halo...

And if you see Halo stuff, don't click on it, it's really not that hard people.

I still think a Halo general forum would be nice some time in the future. It wouldn't be that hard and it would take out guess work if you wanna ask something about maybe the forrunners or halos that dont really involve any particular Halo game. Maybe mash all the halo forums together into one big one as soon as Halo 3 comes out with the exception of the Maw, that way technical computer questions wont get lost in the massive repetition of speculation threads. Of course this will never ever happen probably.

I posted some Elites I drew and animated on Flash in The Flood. That's a good example of off topic Halo. It's funny though how lots of people in The Flood don't like Halo.

Halo topics usually go into one of the many forums they have. However, certain topics like the "Master chief vs" threads don't belong there either. Serious, what the hell does "Master Chief versus Marcus Phoenix" have to do with Halo 3? So I usually allow such topics in the Flood. If it's in one of the others, I rather lock it than move it, but it also depends on the situation.

I don't see why Halo should be in The Flood. There are enough Halo forums as there is. The Flood is there to discuss things that are not about Halo and Bungie basically.

But what if I want to discuss how Master Chief came to me in a dream and we enjoyed smores by the fire, hot chocolate and then cuddled ? See, not appropriate for any other forum except the Flood.

Disclaimer:

atomic weggie has never had this dream, not that it's wrong. It is purely hypothetical for reasoning purposes and should not be held against him.

We shouldn't have to avoid the stupidity and have our experiance hampered because stupid people can't follow the rules.

Furious George: The new -blam!-

I think some Halo topics could be posted in The Flood, but more often than not those threads don't have a point. I don't really care how someone would react if a Hunter had their babies (or something to that effect).

My biggest gripe is when someone says "The Flood is for anything, I can post anything I want."

That's true, cause if you took the Flood out of Halo it would have been a better game. Ooo, burn, it burns so good.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

mattbluhalofan, you answered your own question. The Flood is an "off-topic" forum. Halo discussions are "on topic" and therefore do not belong in the Flood.
