So perhaps Bungie.net does not have a ladder system because the sites that do have a ladder system can be manipulated, and people keep trying to come up with ideas about how a system might work. I have a headache now, but truly ignorance is bliss.

If the powers that be here on B.net decided to remove the "member since" section of our ID's because it promoted superiority complexes, then they're definitely not going to support a ladder system.

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

So you're giving it a chance or something? Those member sinces are still there.

No they're not, look under where it says "Member" after you post. It used to say "Member since 11/22/2004 (or whatever date you joined).

dmbfan and I had a conversation about it when he was still a ninja. We were lamenting the fact that people actually complained about this minor thing enough to make Achronos take it away.

Hmm. Well it's still in your profile.

Perhaps then the question is whether ranks can be created that makes the pursuit of them worthwhile, but does not create, or at the very least creates very few, superiority complex problems.

I'm thinking that the answer is a resounding no.

But I do recall an idea some time ago about creating a set of "names," for lack of a better word, that members could choose from. These names would allow members to feel different while, theoretically, not allowing them to abuse a certain name over another. The idea, as we all might guess, hit a rather big snag when we couldn't figure out what the names would be. It's a rather important hurdle to jump over, I suppose.

I'd prefer a membership former.

Yeah, bad joke.

On a slightly more serious note, no. Bungie.net membership is just find and dandy the way it is. No fees, no ladders, keep membership the way it is.

Here's a quick example of what ranking would be like. You tell me that's not thread crashing...

One of the reasons why everybody here on Bungie is simply titled "Member", isn't just because of less spam, but also to prevent people from getting flammed. For example:

Posted by: A person with a low rank
hey guys, im new here. could someone help me out?
Posted by: A person with a high rank
Haha, you're a noob! You're stupid, because I post more than you and have a higher rank! Haha, noob! Stupid noob!

See? The high-ranked people would make fun of the low-ranked people, simply because they have a low rank. In a perfect world a ladder system would work, but Bungie isn't perfect. I love Bungie, but it's far from being perfect.

Stop: Grammer Time!!! (Sorry, but I can't resist busting out MC Grammer.)

Anyhoo, why do you want to be rewarded for posting on this site? Isn't reading forums and posting comments reward enough for you?

Yes it's perfect. Lets compete over an interweb ranking. Why didn't I think of it before you. Man, you are the bomb.[/sarcasm]

Here at bungie.net most believe it's what you post not how much you post that counts.

The "Member since dates" were pointless really for those of you who are talking about that.

Hmmm this is quite an interesting situation because I seem to remember several times where Achronos has talked about implementing a type of "rewards" system here on B.net. The infamous (so famous, he's in...famous) Karma system talks. I'm pretty sure with the Newer New Hawtness, Achronos might just put something in like that, or at least that is the feeling that I've gotten from him. However, from what I understood, it would not be up to us Normies to decide who got a + and who got a -, but rather by the will of the mods. Which I think is fair enough, if they having the ability to remove you from B.net, they should be able to reward you at the same time.

Hmmm...that actually might work if it's the Mods doing it. That would be awesome to get +1 Zing from Recon!

Nice way to be sarcastic, just because you are a moderator doesn't mean you can say things like that when people have an idea. Maybe it does promote spam but you could have at least explained it half nicely.

Boohoo, welcome to the internet.
I thought it was rather obvious: If posting a lot gets you a higher "rating", people will spam, post useless things and in large quantity, all for their precious "title".

PS. This is me being nice. My first post wasn't meant to harm someone, nor did I try to be a jerk, that was/is my opinion. All I can say is, that I didn't feel like explaining something that I must have done at least a thousand times already.

edit: Now I am being a jerk. Sorry. :(

Yes, please play nicely with the kittens, they are precious. Where's my Disembodied Soul when I need him?
