I have 1 think that is better, and 1 only:

Slow moving hogs don't kill you.
And running people over with banshees is going to get you killed.

No.

I think it's a port and a lot more.

Well after watching the Halo 2 Vista multiplayer gameplay videos i think it will be great. The silky smooth FPS looks sweet and the HDR/Bloom effect.

I have 1 thing that is better, and 1 only:

Slow moving hogs don't kill you.

But with binary inputs (1 and 0, on and off) on keyboards, the point is moot.

Wow, where did you read they're remaking Halo 2 from scratch, but just using the ideas and textures? I don't believe it. Xbox code is perhaps less different from Windows than you may think. Sure, it'll still need changing though, but imagine how it'd be like if they only used "ideas"! So many of the game mechanics would unintentionally change. Heck, even Halo 1 Xbox had an emulator made by one guy that ran the game on Windows.

If anything, I'd hope they aren't using the same textures. That'd just be ugly.

Are you basically saying that the warthog has only two functions, rolling at full speed or not at all? Because it takes time for the vehicle to accelerate before it reaches the danger point of running people over, unlike in the first game...

Hogs can stop on a dime so if the driver isn't blind you'll be fine and if he is then you can jump clear over the vehicle. Runovers with the hog is much harder in Halo 2 because of this.

Yes, and that's one of the few things I like with Halo 2 over the first game. The physics are actually more realistic and much less retarded, thank God.

Not to mention, if the warthog is loaded down with riders, I can simply hop on top of the windshield and go with my buddies without dying when the vehicle moves a few inches.

Of course, still keep in mind a warthog moving at full speed is still very dangerous...

I don't know if it'll be a crappy port, but keep this in mind: With Halo 3 (which will rake in millions of dollars for Bungie) in development, a port of a two year old game isn't exactly high priority.

Thats why a team from Microsoft studios is doing the port. So maybe they can concentrate on getting the netcode right and making some good new maps.

Huh? Wait, wasn't it Gearbox that screwed up the netcode?!

in short: it was Microsoft who said that Halo's netcode should support 56K (incredably slow) connections. this completly messed it up for those with a faster connection.

Yeah, but it's not 56kers fault that you have to lead shots and have a server-side only netcode.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

I would like to know where people are getting these supposed bad reports about Halo 2 Vista.

And concerning the long development time, it's being made for an operating system that only a month ago became "official", in that all the bugs etc. that were going to be fixed for launch were fixed. This is why we don't see a whole rack of Vista Only games at launch, because the operating system was not in final build soon enough to allow that.

So now that we have the final build, Hired Gun is likely doing the required debugging to ensure that the game works on the final build, and hopefully is doing some re-coding to make the game take advantage of any tweaks that occured in late development of Vista.

I see no reason why this port will be as "bad" as or "worse" than HPC, it has superior graphics to the XBox game, which Halo PC barely did if it did at all, from the gameplay video I have seen the auto-aim and hitboxes have been "normalized" for PC play, I don't know how many of you have played Halo 2, but the auto-aim and hitboxes were insane, shots that I saw in the short gameplay vids of H2V that missed would have hit if Halo 2 XBox auto-aim and hitboxes were in effect.

Enough pessimism already, I just want a Halo 1 style server list and better netcode, the fact that other gameplay improvements are being made is a bonus.

Hired Gun has been working on H2V for over a year now. If the game were going to be a bad port, don't you think it would have been out already? If the game's taking this long to do, they're probably taking their time and making sure it's a quality game.

Hopefully they'll be able to keep the netcode some-what the same, due to "Live Anywhere", but with some modifications.

I agree. Things like matchmaking bring out the elitist players, and the pure -blam!-s (Same thing maybe?).

Yep, elitest, i hope it will be like halo 1 where evreyone can join your games (not just freinds), and maybe having a matchmaking option for those who still want it.

Don't confuse matchmaking with ranks.

you need air dude.............

"Halo: Combat Evolved was originally going to be made for the PC & Mac platforms, but it was changed to be written for the Xbox. Then, on 09/30/03, Gearbox Software created Halo for the PC and added a few extra features, too. (It should be noted, however, that in the process of developing the port, the ability to play co-op in multiplayer mode was lost entirely.) Later, a Halo Mac was made. "

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_PC

"On February 9, 2006, Nick Baron announced that Halo 2 would be released on PC exclusively for the Windows Vista operating system. The game is to be ported by a small team at Microsoft Game Studios (codenamed Hired Gun) who will work closely with Bungie Studios. On December 7, 2006, Microsoft visited IGN.com and revealed plans, as part of their Games for Windows brand campaign, to have Halo 2 be playable from disc via streaming during its own PC installation.[54] It was announced that Halo 2 Vista, as it is called by Bungie or Halo 2 for Windows, as called by Microsoft[55], would be in stores before the end of 2006,[56] but this was pushed back due to the push of the Windows Vista launch into 2007. There will be a map editor included that will be made by Microsoft (in cooperation with Bungie Studios). The extent of the map editor's capabilities have not yet been made available.

Halo 2 for Windows will link with the Live Anywhere network and have some operability with the Xbox Live network, as stated in the new FAQ section of Halo 2 for Windows on Bungie's official website. Bungie has stated that it will also have networking features of its own, resembling Halo PC's inclusion of free internet capabilities."

I'm looking forword to Halo 2's GFX, and the ded servers in H2V, and the custom maps, as long as the game doesn't lag like Halo PC, I'm just fine with it.

The game is going to lag, just like any other online shooter. You just won't have to lead your shots.

It's going to have neither HDR or Bloom.

Where did you read that? Just because it's going on a DX10 OS does'nt mean it's going to be super advanced.
