I understand this is a forum. However, it would be nice to have a friends list to see if people you've met on your travels is on B.net. It would make things easier when you want to send them a PM as well. Is this possible? Is this a good idea? Will I ever stop eating sugar substitute? Anyone?

Sounds like a great idea!

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot the world revolved around Mabian.

My mistake.

Well, you used "you" as your pronoun, so the logical interpretation is that you were telling me what good such a list meant to me. If you wanted to talk about how it helped the community in general, you would have said "people."

So how does knowing when someone is online improve my forum experience, besides providing me with a piece of trivia, assuming that I am Joe Forum-Goer?

Quit being a prick Mabian. It helps in the same way the sticky about which Mod is online helps. Now you can get online and find out who else is on that you like. Just because you wouldn't use the feature doesn't mean no one else would.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

Don't over analyse peoples use of pronouns and personal pronouns, Mabian. I count stuff like that as deviating off topic.

It would help because you could see who would be avaliable to talk to, PM, etc etc. Personally I could see it useful for organising matches when no one else is online. Browse the forums for someone to play with.

You say tomato; I say potato.

It would also help with group stuff.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Maybe, but I can think of far more useful, more important things that need to be implemented before a Friends list.

Perish the thought. What is wrong with a joke among good enemies?

Hmmm...fair enough. So long as I have my answer. Though this answer makes me glad my Xbox Live doesn't work anymore.

This is a good Idea. This would allow you to keep track of the members either in your group, or just members you like to track topics of. There is no way you can go wrong except to put a cap on the number of friends you can have.

With all the talk of groups going down a friends list would certainly help us keep in touch with members when you can't remember everyones name... Do it bungie webmaster dudes!!!!!

Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

While Recon's idea is sound, what if, for some reason, one is, ah, allergic to Windows Live Messenger and would like an entirely separate means of determining if said friends are online?

Such as, if one is using a company PC...that is allergic to IM services.

Friends Lists seem to be a good idea, it will help people tell them which of their friends are online so they could send them a PM and expect one back after a few seconds. Sweet.

It also helps activity. I hate it when you can't get anyone to talk to (and it happens a lot when you're a UK Halo fan). A friends list would allow people to find eachother, communicate and even organise X-box live games.

A friend list would be cool. I'm for this idea.

I think everyone should be for it, after all what is there not to like and the benefits would be great.

I would love to have a friends list, it would help me a great deal due to the fact that I can't access any sort of IM at all because I am at work. Although for some reason I can access Gabbly or Gabby or whatever it is. I would also love to have a system setup to access moderators easier as well but that is a different topic.

I like the idea like most others do. It would help me carry out my group duties or even seek help from a friend.

Since the site uses a Windows Live ID for logon and authentication, I could imagine that it might be possible to integrate Bungie.Net and Windows Live Messenger.

Much like we have some integration with XBL (Linked gamertag for stats and profile, show Bungie account membership on XBL and so on) it shouldn't be impossible to make a similar, member managed set of data that would link out to WLM.

Say for example, that my Windows Live ID was "recon54@hotmail.com". I could choose to enter that as my linked WLM contact, and then allow (or disallow) other members on Bungie.Net to send me invites. If I accepted the invite, the link that the other member used could then be used to send IM's.

If Bungie.Net queried the Live Messenger service, it could then display my Messenger status to people on my friends list. I would then use Windows Live Messenger to group out the Bungie.Net contacts and to set my online/offline status.

I don't know. It could work. It would leverage already known and existing systems and services that share the Windows Live ID architecture. As long as members could opt in and out of it, it would provide added value and encourage members to use their primary WLID and gamertag.

yeah, how do i link my gammertag to my account on here?
