Seeing how I did the multipurpose map for what you see, I'll explain. Since launch, people have -blam!-ed at GBX for removing various multipurpose maps from things, such as the assault rifle, jackal shield, and soo forth. When Gearbox did the port, they noticed that nVidia didn't stick to the DX standard very well on some of their older cards, and in some cases on all their cards (active cammo). Seeing how that was something they couldn't help and it would involve a complete rewrite of the engine, which they weren't allowed, they either removed or changed certain things from the game.
The end result was essentially, in this instance, the multipurpose map being removed from halo_ring and ring_inner materials on the Halo. Because of that, hardware that normally wouldn't be able to run the game, could now run it. Seeing how I put it back for a bit of lazy shinyness (I could have easily spent more time on it, but I was busy preparing for something else), you now have pure white, seeing how the multipurpose filters cant shade the basemap.
edit after reading the thread: when I said nVidia didn't stick to the standard very well, it's conditional. The xbox was the first to 'use' DX9. While it uses DX9, it's not DX9 since it's dedicated to the xbox hardware. Certain things, such as the multipurpose and active cammo use different code on the xbox versus their PCGPU counterparts. You can often see problematic things pop up on cards that either dont have the power to emulate it or simply dont support code altogether.
