Completely off topic but I need an answer:
Why, wHy, whY, must people change their name? What is the point? Choose something you like, there is no point in even posting in here if you don't go by some regular name in game, your just another nobody online until YOU recognize somone else's name and say "Sup! It's me [other name]". Where is the fun in it? I love running into the same people I have played before, it makes for a better atmosphere, hell FRIENDSHIPS may even come of knowing that you have played with somone else multiple times.
I am Synthmilk, I have always been Synthmilk, I always will be Synthmilk, if you run into anyone called Synthmilk it will be me, you see me on another game then drop me a line, as long as you don't have to go "Hey Synthmilk! It's me [name] from Bungie!".
The point a lot of people have against showing the MC's face is that he is supposed to be this "faceless soldier" so that YOU, the player, can feel as if you are the MC. But who are you? Your nobody, a random series of characters you felt like calling yourself at the time, have some self worth for crying out loud, some people change over their life, that's great, they can decide on a new name every time that happens if they feel like their old one doesn't fit them anymore, but every month? Every WEEK? I know people are free to do what they want but come on, take a little pride in yourself, come up with a name, an Avatar that represents you in the gaming world, that people will associate your gaming style and character with for all time. Who's going to say "I remember back when I played Halo with [name], but you probably wouldn't have heard of him, as he also went by [name, name, name...name, name] and a few other's I don't remember, and probably a dozen more I don't even know. I haven't kept in touch with him because he kept chaning e-mail addresses."
Great story eh?
I just don't understand it. Why not declair who you are to the world and be proud about it? Why even bother joining a clan if your not going to always play under your clan's banner?
Are gamers not proud anymore? How can you be a member of a community if the only thing we can identify you by, your name, is meaningless? Worthless? Useless.
I can even understand it if when you choose names for a game char, it's based on the game itself, and so obviously you would make a new name for every game you own.
What defines you can not possibly change every month or week, what you like may, that's normal, but who you are is who you are and if you don't know who you are enough to create an Avatar for yourself then that's just sad.
And if anyone says "Well I just play Halo for the hell of it and don't really care what my name is", then why do you change it? Just make a profile, and from that point on, you just have to click a couple times and your in a server, no thinking required.
