Subject: "In Before the Lock!" (IBTL)

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

There needs to be a new rule: ban people who simply enter a thread saying "In before the lock!" When someone posts this up, it's usually to a spam topic which shouldn't be responded to in the first place. I noticed that evilcam blacklisted some people for using it, but it needs to be enforced a bit more. The "INBTL" thing is causing a lot more spam than what we need.

Yeah, all it's doing is bumping threads that should just die. Who made up that stupid thing anyway?

*Sgt

Well evilcam made a sticky about it in the Flood.. so it should help. Hopefully :p

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

There already is a rule about it. It just doesn't seem to be enforced much.

I think they should enforce it. IBTL is one of the dumbest and most pointless things I've ever seen.

Please stop saying in before the lock, or any variation of it. All it does is bump the topic. Its technically spam, so people who use it to connote bad threads will be blacklisted from now on.

If you think a topic is in need of locking, PM a ninja and tell them about it.

Final warning.

Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU.

The whole "In b4 teh l0cK" is the most pointless stuff ever. And I see it all the time in a thread that's going to get locked. As stated, it just bumps the thread up.

I'm glad action is being taken on it, because it's really annoying.

I think I remember the post that started it. Some guy made a post encouraging people to do it, because it was common in another forum. At the time I thought he was a moron. I now know he is a moron for starting the fad. He's lucky I don't remember his name...

I am incredibly happy to see that sticky.

/pwned.

But yea, I hate IBTL, too(TOO). It's pointless. I either ignore the thread, or kindly tell them where to go.

I agree. We should let the ninjas do their jobs, alert them to problems, and ignore questionable threads.

I think it would be a good idea to edit the rules to include this. Some people don't realize it's spam, and I know a certain someone who is feeling salty for getting blacklisted because of saying it.

Then again, I would also like to say that this shouldn't be a bannable offense. According to the rules, spam will get a thread locked but shouldn't get someone blacklisted unless it's excessive.

But, the mods know best.

It's without a doubt one of the most serious problems facing the internet world to date. The OP should be sainted for calling attention to this.

Well I usually ban people on sight for intentionally bumping and spamming by replying with this sort of crap. It ruins other people's enjoyment of the forums because their threads are being sunk by it. I believe it should be a blacklistable offence because it's one of the more serious and poignant (at least to me) problems with the current state of the forums.

I don't believe people need to be explicitly warned about it either. If they have even half a brain, they would realise its impact on the forum index (and impact on other peoples valid discussion threads).

If I make a thread, I don't want to compete with spam threads for attention. When you think about how the forums work, bumping spam is just as detrimental as posting a new spam thread. If people get off on ruining the forums, in order to amuse themselves in this way, I really don't see a reason to vary the punishment between starting a spam thread and contributing to one.

If you can get banned for replying to spammers and trolls, I think creating a thread about the inbeforethelockers is grounds for the same.

It may sound harsh, but Im not really crazy about the idea of The Septagon turning into an international crybaby convention.

That's all well and good, but isn't it technically impossible for bumping a thread to sink it? It does, by definition, keep it at the top of the forum.
