It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Thanks for that stirring explanation.
You seem fairly well acquainted with the alphabet.
If you're dealing solely with bumping spam threads then that's accurate.
If, however, you're dealing with the spamming and/or unnecessary bumping of legitimate threads; while annoying, it doesn't do so much to damage the integrity of the thread.
Besides, if threads A-D are truly active, being bumped halfway down the page won't keep them from receiving hits. This problem has been blown far out of proportion by people who, like so much of this community nowadays, are simply looking for something to complain about.
I disagree. Bumping has always irritated me. It does cause problems, and I'll show you why. (I'm going to use the alphabet, insult me for it if you will.)
Let's say we have A-F, and the front page can only hold 5 threads. A is the most active thread, F is the elast active an so it is on the second page.
A
B
C
D
E
F
Now, imagine that a spam thread is created. That immediately pushes E to the bottom of the page. Let's assume that, since this is no far cry from the truth, members flock to the spam to throw in their "witty" comments before it closes. When they're done, surely some of the members posting to that thread will have forgotten about it or lost interest in it. Now the spam is locked, and every other thread is bumped down unless it has a reply.
It's not life or death, but it is irritating.
