Good to see at least somebody takes this place seriously

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

',:\ IF YA SAHMELLLL

The rule posted by Stosh states that bad jokes aren't allowed. However, I have rarely seen this enforced by any of the moderators. This rule needs to be put back into effect and enforced. It would cut down on a lot of crap and shenanigans that goes on down in the flood and other main forums. Some of the bad jokes that come to mind are as follows:

* Aids jokes
* Chuck Norris, and any other similar phrased jokes
* Yo mama jokes (it makes me sad that these have to go, but they must)
* Adding "/sarcasm" or another varient to the end of a sarcastic comment. If you have to explain your joke, it ceases to be funny.
* orly/ya rly
* Cat pictures
* etc.

And for all the posts that are going to say something along the lines of "This thread is a bad joke", I am totally serious. This is no joke thread. Bad jokes need to die.

The problem is that if we enforce these rules, they will move from the flood to sparatic posts across the forums. These things probably arent enforced because without any form of comedy on the site, people cant relax or have any fun. Sure, sometimes it gets out of hand, but members should have at least some rights on these forums and some leeway when it comes to having a good time.

I am not against good, funny humor. It is the bad jokes that seem to be running rampant that need to go. Genuinely funny stuff can of course stay, but something needs to be done about the bad jokes.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I can't decide whether to post the serious cat picture here, or not. The inherent irony makes it an almost perfect opportunity. But at the same time, it seems like it may be taken poorly in this circumstance.

Anyways, I don't see a reason to try to ban bad jokes. If you don't like the joke, ignore it. Some things that make me laugh you'll find stupid, so "bad joke" is completely subjective. So, no, I don't think anything should be done to completely ban "bad jokes."

And I won't make a joke. I mean, this is a serious thread, after all.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Oh...man....

Serious Cat...has never seemed SO serious before. It's shocking.

If you didn't know, that rule is a joke.

Ach! Was ist los?

I was under the impression that the rule applied only to jokes that are likely to be offensive, rather than just stale or tasteless.

I'd say that would be a reasonable assumption.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

But I like the Chuck Norris, Yo Mama, and Kitty jokes...

And I find that [/sarcasm] makes the joke funnier, though not for the same reason that the sarcasm itself is funny.

New Flood

Bad jokes are as old as forums themselves, if not older. You should just learn to deal with the people, like myself, who need to make a bad joke at every occasion.
Ofensive jokes are unaceptable, however bad jokes should be encouraged.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Jesusismyhomey.

No offense, buddy, but who are you to say what is a good or a bad joke? Some people find "/sarcasm" funny. Some don't. Honestly, many of your posts in the Flood and the Halo 3 forum qualify as pretty bad jokes.

Not only that, but if a stale, humorless joke were to be banned from the forums, then that would prevent a guy with the name "Jesusismyhomey" from posting ever again.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

I need /sarcasm every now and then, because otherwise, people just think I'm being a dick. I need yo momma jokes because I really did -blam!- your mom.

Impy needs cat pictures.....because he's Impy?

This seems hopelessly lost to me.

I've had many an occasion where something has amused me a hell of alot more than somebody else; for instance, a person falling down a couple of steps could be mildly amusing if they escape from their misfortune relatively unscathed.

This is all far too subjective a matter to provide anything near universal standards.

Hopeless.

Why don't you just give me ONE SECOND!

D:
But I sometimes find some of these jokes amusing. If done at the right moment, it can actually be funny. I wouldn't necessarily consider "Your mom", "Chuck Norris", and Posting of cute kitty pictures to be "Bad jokes". The "/Sarcasm" one is ok, but it can be annoying IMO sometimes. The AIDS ones are rather dumb I have to admit. Those should be the ones that need to go. "O rly/ya rly" I don't really care. This is just my opinion... so...

The problem is that humor is an opinion. Hence, no one thing is funny. For instance, I lub kitty pictures with quotes. I think they're quite funny. You obviously don't: why should you get your way?

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

Allowing no bad jokes at all (in view of the moderators with the ninja buttons) would result in possible stagnation and extreme anger to people who are allergic to poorly thought out lines of text...

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

When did Stosh make those rules? 'cause Achronos broke one himself, with the "Satisfying your mom since 1991!" thing, which l hate by the way.
