Speaking from splitscreen experience: The sword is so easy to dodge its almost laughable. You see, the Master Chief apparently runs at the same speed fowards as well as backwards, so if you see a guy with a sword, simply back away and pwn his ass. I understand what your saying about the lunge and small maps, but the lunge seems to have a larger range in campaign than in multiplayer, that may be wrong but its my opinion. Also, the sword will not kill you in one hit. Only if the person is jumping and then lunges will he kill you in one slice.
What you just said is laughable. I'm sorry, but that's a load of bullcrap. The Sword can be dodged, but not as easily as you say. You are wrong, flat out wrong, when you say that you run at the same speed backwards as you do forward. You don't. People pedal in reverse slower than they do running forward.
By the way, if a person lunges at you from five feet away when both of you are standing still, it is an instant kill. He doesn't even have to be running. You don't need to jump to get a one-hit kill.

And with small maps, thats why Bungie is putting a limit on the sword for Halo 3. Its kinda like the flamethrower: All the noobs who just got the game will go "Oooh, shiny" and will pick it up. But the experienced players realize what just happened, and if you pick up a sword you might as well paint a big bulls-eye on your face, because everybody will immediantly shoot you. The biggest threat from halo is either the noob combo or the sniper rifle. Having recently aqquired Halo 2, I realize that sniping isnt totally based on auto-aim, it is just much easier to move your crosshairs at the same pace that somebody will run at with a controller rather than a mouse.
Where did you hear that Bungie is putting a limit on the sword in Halo 3? Also, I disagree with what you said, most players are smart enough to hide the sword and switch to their other weapon as soon as they get it right up to the point until they use it.
Jeez, Kim, I told you, i was speaking from splitscreen experience. The rest was gathered from Youtube and friends. But when I played rumblepit with 3 friends, whenever someone got a sword and started charching me, all I had to do was back up and he never seemed to get any closer. Also, I have jumped over people when they lunged tons of times, and simply turned around and stuck 'em.
As for where I heard about the sword limit, I got it from a friend who tends to somehow know these things. Dont tell me he was just making up some bs, because he seemed to be doing that a lot before Halo 2 came out, and not a bit of it was wrong. No, he didnt get the Halo 2 stuff from here because I checked here regularly back then and didnt see any of that.
In other words, jeez, dont flame me just because you got some sand in your -blam!- and decide that im wrong about one little thing. >=(
