Subject: Can Halo PC be played without the disc?

I installed Halo PC on my computer, but I have to put the disc in everytime I want to play. Is there any way to install Halo completely, so I don't have to use the disc? Or is there a place where I can legally download the full version to my PC? Also I have Halo installed on my desktop, but I just bought a PC specifically for gaming. Can I install Halo on more than one PC, or do I have to buy a new copy?

You have to put the disk in everytime you want to play the game. And you can install the game on a million computers if you want and play Halo on each one of them.

I thinks thats right!

Umm. No.

You can install Halo on multiple computers, but only one would be able to play multiplayer.

And there is no way to get Halo to run without the disc short of downloading a No-CD crack (of which there are none for v1.07) or download and mount a CD Mini-image. However, both of which are quasi legal and are probably against the rules of this forum. So don't even bother asking where to find them.

Yes you can.

To play Halo without the disk you need to have it mounted to a virtual drive. It's all very complicated. I suggest google-ing "Alcohol 120%", it's the program I use and if I remember correctly they have a pretty extensive FAQ on it.

Mounting a game you own is perfectly legal.

Daemon tools. As I have seen it suggested heavily, I don't believe it kicks shins legally.

Many people ignorantly equate NO-CD/Mini-images with piracy. While they are legal (as long as you can prove you own the game), I wouldn't necessarily call them "perfectly legal." Since many people can just borrow the disc, install the game, then crack it, they can still be used for piracy.

I created and installed a mini disk image, I have researched the legality of it, perfectly legal as long as you don't give the disk to anyone else. Also, perfectly capable of Multiplayer.

If you own the game it is perfectly legal and there are many reasons to do so. One of which can be greatly decreased load times. Another is convenience.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Just so you know, most PC games don't load from the disc at all. It's really used for legal verification purposes. Halo never reads from its disk, everything is on the hard drive.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

The EULA states that circumventing the copy protection is a violation of that agreement. Even if you own the game. Lame but that's the way it is.

Just wondering, if you have a game that doesn't need to have the disc in the drive, like UT2004, is it legal to borow the game to a frend so that he can install it on his computer and play it? *gulp*

The only way would be to either hack it or download a No-CD Crack. You are basically requesting a crack, which is a bad thing in these 'ere parts.

Some of you should really ignore the stupid copyright laws and not listen to the greedy coroprations and actually use what you pay for, for what you want. If you buy it, you should be able to make a image and mount it for conveience purposes.

Also mounting it with a virtual drive is not complicated like someone above me thought.

I used to have nearly every one of my games on a virtual drive through daemon tools, mainly because my bro would buy the game, but was excellent at losing the cd, but then I started getting constant errors with it, so gave up on it. Halo never gave me a problem though.
