Keep in mind that this is the community for the developer of a VIDEO GAME. I shall hunt for demographic data, but I'm sure the average age for Halo 2 players would be about 15. And almost all of them will be male.

Well, it is the fact that Halo CE gathered so much steam that people even heard about Halo 2, not to mention the giant advertisement campaign behind the game. The only reason anyone really bought the game is becuase of how big a deal everyone made out of it.

Therefore, anyone with an X-Box and who liked to shoot things bought Halo 2. This included jocks, preppy people, anybody really. Now we have people who have an online identity they don't have to worry about. They can offend and put others down at no risk to themselves. This is the philosophy of a non-gamer. You notice how the Halo PC community isn't anything like this? Because Halo PC is virtually unheard of among a majority of the youth today. Its protected from idiots like that, or at least in mass quantities.

It also is no longer just Bungie's community. It almost the whole of XBL. Although Halo 2 I would say houses the most of the scum, it is still very noticeable in a large portion of other games. I came into a game the other day on Chromehounds and was booted from the part becauase I asked if they might be able to change the map. One quesion and Im out, not only that but they cursed at me and laughed in my face before booting me. What was so funny and what I did wrong eludes me.

There are idiots in every game, but XBL itself houses the largest portion of those idiots. It has now become what defines XBL, unfortunately. There is no escaping it anymore. These forums are much better than XBL, and while there are there fair share of idiots here, just ignore them. You cant do anything to help it, just remember those who show intelligence in what they talk about and you will see the real side of bungie's fans, or at least the good side.

The only thing that comes into my head when reading this statement is a line from Obi-Wan.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Agreed. Although reading GameJunkieJim's post, I realize that the quest for members in groups is sadly what defines most groups.

All the group invites I've received are for groups that have no other purpose than to be a pyramid scheme of ranks and seniority. One of the worst invites I received made it clear. It said something to the effect of: "I've seen you lurking around, and I think you would be a great stepping stone to my next rank." It even said "Join the golden spartans, rank up, and my become a golden spartan one day." Groups aren't RPGs! I checked the person's rank in that group, and he was the lowest rank, obviously sending me a carbon-copy advertisement. Hence the reason for my signature.

The best groups don't advertise, they're just such great places that people sig them without being asked or required. Sadly, those great groups are often bumped down from the classifieds by groups that exist solely to satisfy the founder's ego.
