Subject: Can we get a red phone for the mods in New Hawtness?

I know we have to link to see which mods are on, (although I think it's currently down). I also know that when spammers appear from the darkness, everyone starts shouting "Call the ninjas! Call the Mods!!!" Well, for new members, that might be a hard thing to do.

Solution? : Have a ready made button that goes directly to a list of mods currently online at the time. A button that is constantly on the screen at all times (maybe off to the right?). It could even have a cool little nija head symbol on it or something. It's just for the longest time, when I was a new member, I wasn't sure how to contact a mod. It was like my house was getting robbed, and I didn't know the number to 911.

Any thoughts?

Well how about the button goes straight into a PM message, you type what you want, and it is sent.

But it doesn't tell you who it is sent to, but it sends to either one of the mods that is online, or the last one o be online, or the most active mod.

That way the spammers can't see who is online

You can't expect immediate responses here in the Septagon. It's full of extremely helpful people but it's also very slow. They forgot about my topic that I needed help with.. *cry*

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

You can't make a thread in the 24 hours after account creation. And don't forget to read the rules.

you cant make threads until your accont has been active for 24hrs

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Do not make multiple posts. That is a ban-able offense. This is a message board, not a chat room. Wait until someone replies to make another post. You should read the rules, that will help. They're in the stickies.

You have to be a member of this site for at least 24 hours in order to make topics, so you'll have to wait awhile.

On topic, sure why not? There is already a way for you do do that, if you go to the HFCS member page, and weed through all the mods to see who may be logged in. As you said, newer members would not think of doing that, so perhaps some extra help couldn't hurt.

Stickies are at the top of every forum.

Do you really run crying to the mods enough to necessitate a red phone?

I'd like to see a "report thread" button, that gives it a shiny icon on the mods' forum views, but it'd last about 30 seconds before being abused. Which would mean restricting it to trusted members, and you may as well make them moderators, then :P.

  • 03.03.2007 2:38 PM PDT

Well, abuse of "the red phone" would also warrant a blacklist. I also think it would be a good deterrent to would be spammers by seeing the "red phone" icon next to the post they are creating. It's kind of like seeing a police car on the highway while you're speeding...You always check your speedometer when you pass by. (for those of you who drive.)

  • 03.03.2007 2:46 PM PDT

This system wouldnt work well, because every time someone disagrees with someones idea someone will probably abuse it. Not to mention imagine how many messages the moderators would be getting. They would be overwhelmed. If you system was made, i estimate bungie would need at least 100 moderators for it to work.

The system would never work

  • 03.03.2007 3:06 PM PDT

...then why do we have mods in the first place art? If they are unable to help, then why do they exsist?

That's like saying people shouldn't have phones in thier houses because the police would be too overwhelmed.

*Not a flame, I think art is a quality member*

Most of them give out their msn details...Can't you just message them?

  • 03.03.2007 4:24 PM PDT

I can, but when I was a new member someone PM'd me a scary message day one. I didn't know how to contact a mod, so I just stayed away from B.net for awhile.

I later learned that the "scary" message was a lesson not to put personal info on my home page.

I felt helpless back then. It would just make it easier for new members.

Did the scary message involve a weed whacker and a live chicken?

We may be looking at a repeat offender.
