Heyyo,

Why would you think my question's retarded? Online Co-op would be really cool to play with your friends who suck at the game. It would also be sweet to test your skills in Legendary as you blast away through the levels. I'm not saying I HATE BUNGIE for them taking it out. I would just have liked to have that done. Even though you would have to completely rewrite the game.
Of course coop would be pwnage... as for rewriting the game's engine? no. Simple, bots could be easily added to the game, all they would have to do is add proper support for fake clients... Cause think about it... There's Halo1CE/PC custom maps that have AI in multiplayer... of course, they're not properly synched, due to lacking fakeclient support. So that goes to show you that YES, you could do even Halo1CE in coop, but it would be messed up. All they'd have to really do is redo parts of the map to support multiple players. NOT an impossible feat.. if it were impossible...
would Half Life 1 have coop mods like svencoop?
would Half-Life 2 have coop mods like Synergy and eventually svencoop2?
would Doom 3 have OpenCoop and LastManStanding (which make Doom3 multiplayer A LOT of fun might I add...)
would Far Cry have had FarCryCoop? (albeit, the creators dropped the mod.. saddly.. altough there is now assaultcoop..)
would F.E.A.R. have CoopWarfare?
simple. Games don't HAVE to support coop of the bat, they just have to properly support fakeclients in order for it to work, otherwise the map creators would have to somehow properly do it themselves (and the creators of the AI maps for Halo1CE did a pretty decent job for what tools they have.. just kinda sad that they can't do more due to lack of support from the game's creators).
So yeah, I could name a few other games that had coop mods for them, but for now this is a pretty potent list... what I hope is.. Halo2Vista will support Fakeclients, which will mean proper support for AI in Halo2Vista MP, so coop would be possible, and multiplayer bots to help fill servers that are awaiting for players, instead of servers where there's no one, and only once 2 people are in the server do people actually start to populate it..
Now, one thing I wanna add for fakeclient support.. yes, the source engine does support basic fakeclient, which's cool... but not very fully... check out RCbot2, sadly, cheeseh doesn't have the codes in order to read ammo counts on the bots, and be able to setup weapons for the bots due to lack of support for functions to call values on for 3rd party bots... so now I bet you ask, how come CSS has it with the official bot? well, it's an official mod, they probably coded that stuff in with special calls only that damn official bot will know cause it's not publicly released code.. so that means for mods like PVKii (awesome mod btw, my fav source engine mod) the only way for a bot to fully grasp the game, they'd have to code it all in.. which will probably happen since the creator of grogbot (PVKi bot creator) is part of the mod team... but yeah, further proves my point that as long as mod creator's have the code support and proper tools, they could easily make anything possible, as long as the mod team could pump out content. Modding ftw. =D
