Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

I have XBL so I better get this free anyway. ;)

But this is PC gaming, not some crappy console system.

Voice chat? I'll use Ventrilo or TS.
Private chat? Same?
Friends list? Called a messaging service.
Parties? You mean like setting a gaming up?
Marketplace? I'd rather not pay for demos.

I hope Microsoft fails big time with their attempt to change the face of PC gaming. I like it the way it is, and I don't want any crappy console version of gaming to taint the PC experience.

The thing is, microsoft can't charge you for features that are already used by things like xfire, if they do, well, no one will use it. What they need to do is find some key features (marketplace) that will make paying worth it. If they take away anything on that list except marketplace from silver, then no one will use it because you can already do all that with xfire, except for free.

Live's a closed network and MS will probably ban people for using those

Ban? As in no access to Live Anywhere whatsoever? Just for using a voice chat program?

Anyway, Live Anywhere could be a big thing. I think you need to realize that Xbox Live is an efficient way to play with friends, see what they're doing, contacting them, etc. It's basically what PCs are good for and what consoles should be jealous that PCs should have. As much as services like Xfire and Gamespy Arcade has bridged the gap, Live Anywhere is going to change all that.

Microsoft isn't trying to change the face of PC gaming with Live Anywhere at all, they're just trying to add to it. What is going to change the face of PC gaming is the Games for Windows marketing campaign. It's going to make PC games easier to play, understand, and the end result will make more and more gamers PC gamers.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

I highly doubt Games for Windows is going to significantly increase the # of PC gamers. I mean, we are talking about M$, the company that has been trying to kill off the OpenGL API for at least a decade, and will probably succeed with Vista.

PC gaming has always been about choice and user customization. Microsoft is all about doing it their way.

I'm glad for that. As much as I support Microsoft, I'm comfortable with the fact that if they screw up, they won't bring everything down with them.
