Now I know this may sound simple to you guys, but the number 1 thing I want to see in Halo 2 multiplayer besides Xbox Live play is: Press X to Pick-up Flag. I can't count the number of times picking up the flag when I don't want to has led to disasterous results. There have been tons of times when I've thrown the flag to the ground and still only to have it picked up despite the fact that I haven't moved and just threw it moments ago. A simple press x would easily solve this problem. What do you all think? Do you think this should be small update to the mechanics of multiplayer? Honestly this is the ONLY thing that bothers me when it comes to gameplay in Halo multi.

That's one thing that is really annoying, ill agree with you there.

Your hiding in like.. the base at Blood Gulch someone comes in, you throw the flag behind you or whatever to shoot them, but you pick it up again in the time it takes to pick the flag up and throw it you can die easily.

They need to do something to prevent spawn campers. Like given to person who spawned a second or two where they are invincable and can't shoot so they could find cover. Just a thought.

yeah, that's a bit frustrating, but I'll admit that I've used that as a strategey in oddball on multiple occasions. I'll toss the ball to someone and get the jump on them, take them out, and go about my regular business.

i said something about this before in the old bungle.net forum. and i agree. i hate picking up the flag when i don't want too. trying to defend yourself while always picking up the flag is not very effective.

You have a point there, they should just put that feature in capture the flag.

Glad to know my friends and I are not the only ones with this problem. I also use the strategy of throwing the skull at an enemy in Odd Ball, but in CTF there is just nothing positve about it. Hopefull Bungie will fix this at least for CTF. Perhaps if we all make a big enough fuss about it :P

Yes, the flag thing is annoying as hell, especially when you're already getting your ass beat; it's the kind of thing that could test your last nerve

or dropping in on a base secretly and landing right on it can be a major bust!

i do agree partly, but the unintentional flag picking up also adds an edge to the game.... it may not be a good one at all times but it does non the less.

I do worry thatchanging the controls could affect the whole game mechanic and that is worrying, however I too have had problems with this in multiplayer.

Maybe it could be like this,
Press X to pick up the flag when it's in the base and then you could just pass it around and not have to press X when it's not near the base. That wouldn't be hard to make, just set a zone arounds the bases where you have to press X, and the rest could be free and you just have to touch it to pick it up.

I think they could do what John does in the books where in an exercise he takes the flag off the pole so its easy to carry (an interesting option) and so he can still use a light gun like the pisol for example. or if ur in a rush and are spotted u could always still make a dash with the pole also. just an idea.

Good points here.
Pressing X to pick up and drop the flag.
Having a couple of seconds of invincibility when respawning.
Being able to reload when a passenger in a vehicle.

I dont' think you should be able to shoot while you carry the flag.
It makes openings in the game for reversals. And lends itself to teamwork/tactics to succeed. It's is a big pole too, requiring two hands to carry. Nor should you be able to rip the flag off the pole. It's about balancing gameplay over what's realistic.

I would like the idea I posted a long long time ago on the gamefaqs board, and on the xbox.com board some time ago.

Have it that in indoor mplayer levels team players spawn in spawn rooms (that the other team cannot enter) and on outdoor levels you get dropped off by dropships... (the dropships also have gunners (on the back for the pelican), I think this could help spawn killing immensely... It'd also be origional in my books and fps gaming history...

If they implement destructable vehicles in Halo 2 Mplayer, this could also be a way to have them drop off a new one (Covenant dropships drop off Covenant vehicles, and Human Pelican drops off Human vehicles) after the dead one "disappears"...
