Subject: Members joining just to take up space?

I have noticed that a lot of Bungie.net's new members have joined and have only taken up
space.

They sign up and they don't log on for about 2 months and I find it annoying.

People should join the website if they are interested in actually posting in the forums and reading the news about Halo 3.

Possibly 1/4 of the members are people who join for the sake of joining.

If more people join the site and don't post, what do the mods plan on doing, because I haven't seen members who haven't been logged in in the past 2 months not deleted.

(I did spaces so it is easier to read)

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

It makes little difference. Profile data isn't that big and there aren't too many members.

Besides, they end up with 1/4 blacklisted any way.

So we should ban people for not doing anything?

They're not taking up space, there's plenty to go around.

That's not my point. I mean that members that join for the sake of joining should be banned.

Why? They may have decent opinions they want to get out. Why should we ban people? We don't do anything important here.

So let me get this straight. You want the mods to find out exactly which members have joined and never returned. You want them to go through every new account a couple weeks after they have been created to see who is active and to ban those who aren't. Yet banning the people who aren't active, well, it seems redundant to ban someone for literally doing nothing. And I don't see what your problem is with someone you've not only never seen post, but someone whose existence you can't verify.

After 6 months any inactive account is auto-trashed. Some people might have joined just to participate in groups and/or that is all they ever do. Some members might be permanently blacklisted, thus they can only post in groups and not the main forums.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Well when you put it like that...

Users who do not log in for 120 days are deleted. I think that works well.

Space?

Hahahahah.

All of bungie.net's user and content database is about 1 gigabyte. The forums account for another 1.5 gigabytes.

Space is not a problem. Now the game stats... well, let's just say they take up waaaaaaaaaaaaay more space than that, almost enough to make the forums and user/content databases a rounding error. Statistically speaking.

Oh, and inactive members are deleted after 1 year of not logging in (it used to 120 days, it is 1 year now).

Their was a time when this was under a post. Simpler times; no Halo 3 Forum and no search. Simpler times. Happy about search though.

Isn't it like 2 terabytes(Trillion)?

Very generous.

Not all bnet members have as much spare time as you apparently do.
The ones that do, don't feel the need to check up on other members and see how long it's been since they signed in.
You need a hobby, a girlfriend, or both.

Well what happens if people have to deal with real life? I mean Maka would be up the creek if we went by what you proposed. Also if they wish not to post then that is there choice. Just because they want to do other things does not mean they have no right to have an account here.

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Why in the blue hell do people care about how many inactive members sign up? The things some people whine about on this forum amazes me sometimes...

The amount of people signing up to Bungie.net has increased , because of Frankie's announcement of the "Friends and Family" Program. They want to sign up as soon as possible , post as much as they can ( or not ) , thinking they have a chance to join. It's unfortunate , but it's the truth.

It's alright though , I love this community no matter what. :)

(random yet funny signature goes here)

What about those of us that do join up and do sign in regularly, but never really have a whole lot to say in the forums and post maybe 2-3 posts a month. That wouldn't be fair to us, I don't want to have to go through the hassle of making a new account just to point out how silly an idea is, much like this one.

Most of those 'dead' accounts would be made to link gamertags.

How many members exist exactly?

Create a new account and hover your cursor over the name. It will show something like http://www.bungie.net/Account/Profile.aspx?memberID=1741705 (that's yours, by the way). The number at the end is the number of accounts before yours, plus 1.

Oh wait, that would be creating a user that doesn't post...

Even if the Moderators did something about these unused account, The kid would eventually find out and just make a New one. Regardless, the only thing they're hurting with what they're doing is your feelings =P

That's why I have 2 accounts I don't use. Occasionaly, tho, You can see me accidentally post on my other one.
