Pretty much the only problem that we need to fix is that there is no incentive to be a good member. I have ideas there.

Achronos mentioned that B.net needs to encourage good members and posts. What about emblems in profiles that can be earned. Gamespot has an emblem system. It encourages members, but it isn't flashy. The only way you can tell if someone has an emblem is by checking their profile. Emblems could be earned in a variety of ways: a mod notices an exceptionally good post, longevity, theme master, avatar submission, community involvement, etc . . .

Here is an example of a profile with emblems. Scroll down and look on your right.

I like that idea, in a way, but I'd rather have something better, such as a moderator/web-team given "Medal" that will be displayed next to your name, or perhaps instead of "Member" it's like "Trustworthy Member" (or something of the sort).

Of course, Achronos said he has ideas, and it seems he spends a lot of time thinking about things like this, deeper than many of us, I'm sure. And I'd like to point out that Achronos has a record of really good ideas, at least in my opinion..

I actually really enjoy sitting back and watching what Bungie does, with their games and with their websites. They really know what they're doing.

While I see this as almost certainly contributing to elitism, It's no worse than having a join date on your profile. As long as it's kept off your posts, as the join dates are, things should be A-OK.

Very cool beans feature.

Frigid, in fact.

Well, I think some of you are thinking that Bungie.net would ever give you rewards based on community feedback. As those systems are easily broken, it would be far better off to give a 'good member' feedback option to only the moderators and web team. (or perhaps Achronos would hand select people for titles, avatars, etc.)

  • 03.08.2007 3:51 PM PDT

Fight hard, break bones >{o

the only 'reward' i want is better public forum moderating. there is no way to do that though, so simply giving us the new site updates and Halo 3 is enough for me.

i say; mods quit worring about our rewards, worry about good content. make the best site you can and if we mess it up, oh well. just leave us the chapter system and we're good.

profile emblems; if its kept off the forums, and only on your personal page (as stated), otherwise i dont like it. a way to submit ideas like this to bungie more efficiently would be nice and if they updated the game pages a little more (im still waiting for map guides other then lockout! coming soon my side!)

The only problem with custom user avatars is that there is a possibility of abuse. Most likely, there will be people who will abuse the privilege and use avatars that are inappropriate.

Now, if you could unlock more avatars as your account duration and community participation increase, I think that that would be a really cool idea, and one that wouldn't comprimise B.net's integrity.

As I stated previously, any rewards should be limited to profiles, so they are not elitist. We don't need to divide people in the forums. There is enough conflict already.

I like those. As long as there isn't anything for number of posts. None of them can in anyway encourage spamming or anything bad like that.
I really like the idea.

Hey great idea! You're just a few years too late though. This idea will never be implemented because it will cause more problems than it will solve. Game. Set. Match.

Profile only, moderator only: yes, if there were more mods.
Otherwise, no.

Even if it's only in your profile I would still say there are better ideas out there.

So your profile says a different word in it... I wouldn't really call that an incentive or a reward. No-one would go out of their way to get that. It may become elitist too. Imagine that two people are arguing about how dual-swords is a brilliant/crappy idea. They're both on the edge of flaming and getting really annoyed with eachother...

One of them has the shiny "Trusted Member" profile and the other doesn't (and they've checked eachothers profiles) Even if one doesn't come out and claim that they're evidentally superior (so says their profile), I'm sure they will become really smug and feel "higher" than them (and act as such during the "debate"), further burning the thread into a crisp.

I think Invisible rewards such as extra content that you can access (without other people knowing you can) would probably be a better idea. I think any visible tags on your profile that state "I am trusted" should be avoided as far as ideas go. Afterall, a computer can't decide that someone's "trusted" anyway.

I don't know about Emblems, but ash's explanation seems very good. After some time receiving good "karma", a member will be able to choose a new avatar, or get a title that appears on their profile only.
