maybe, to encourage good behavior, there could be Forum Medals given out. there could be a few things, like member ones, posted in a small area, and Moderator ones. The medals show up under your name or avatar. They show, good posts, great adittude, nice topic.
bad ones: spamming, using 1337, flaming

They could all have pictures of their alias, and they would all be there, and there would be a number of how many. There would also be a small user thing, when regular members could flag up or down, adding to a small number under that. This would be a reward for being good, it could also say what members might have the stuff to be a mod if needed. There is also a Mod medal to be given, that it is only available to the mods, they can add that, and that says that you have the thumbs up of a mod. There could be many different medals, and to stop there from being a long list making a giant post, it could be a scroll bar. That way it is tiny, out of the way, and it doesn't interfere with the posts. you can view what people have so far too.

up-sides:
* encourages good behavior, almost like training a dog.
* helps people know that someone is not to be trifled with
* lets moderators know that the member is susceptible of B-listing
* Lets people know who to turn to if they need help
* can tell you if someone is good enough to be your friend on Xbox Live if they have an account.

down-sides:
* people judge you before meeting you
* just another flashy distraction

disscuss?

I went for the "maybe" because I halfway agree with your proposal. I think that it could be great to see a persons attitude and posting record very easily. I do however disagree that other users should be able to "flag you for a medal". This would cause a huge rush of bad medals from jerks just trying to be annoying. "Flagging" from moderators for all of the medals isn't a bad idea though. Though they do already have a lot of messes to clean up already.

Elitism is bad enough as it is. This would only make it worse.

no, users can only submit a small number thing. and only once. a small thumbs up or down, and then it increases a small number, not medals, or decreases it. just so that the users don't get left out. or they have to earn the privelage. This is a very flexible concept that can be bent to anyway the mods want it.

Please find me an example of elitism on this site.

I would say maybe, but stick them in the Profile and be able to choose one to put under your avatar. It would reduce the problem of the forums looking cluttered. :]

Exactly. People are too worked up over elitism. I haven't seen it since the join date under the avatars.

Also, topic creator, like this?

"You know what happens when you leave someone hanging for too long? They fall."

*Click* Psshhhhhhhh

I'm going to edit your list:

up-sides:
* encourages good behavior, almost like training a dog.
* helps people know that someone is not to be trifled with I don't really like how you worded this, but I'll leave it be.
* lets moderators know that the member is susceptible of B-listing

down-sides:
* people judge you before meeting you
* just another flashy distraction
* encourages bad behavior; some members will do stupid things on purpose to get the bad medals.
* bragging will occur on a large scale if this "medal" idea is activated.
* people will try too hard to get good medals and end up creating spam and similar situations.

What I took out and why:
* Lets people know who to turn to if they need help. Sorry, but members barely ever turn to someone they do not know. Usually members only do this if they know someone from a private group setting.

* can tell you if someone is good enough to be your friend on Xbox Live if they have an account.[i] Again, unless you are new to XBL and are needy of "friends", you wouldn't use this. After a couple weeks you usually find your friend's list full, and need to delete some names.

**You also mentioned that it may help moderators know who is fit to be one of them. If members are that helpful/contributing/etc. then the mods will not need medals to inform them of this.

I don't think bungie should take the time to hand out cookies to people who do good. You can see it one of two ways: You get a reward for doing good, or a punishment for doing bad. It's like Machiavelli's writings; and usually punishing people gets the point across more so than rewarding them.

I like it. There wouldn't really be any elitism as the medals should'nt have anything to do with how long you have been a member or your popularity. Also, to become 'elite' in the first place you would have to be a good, constructive, law abiding member. I say yes!

When two mods try to lock a thread at once and post something liek "this is not a halo board!" ann "This is the wrong thread to post this topic in, try New Mombassa." your thread should get a "DOUBLE KILL!

How is that elitism? It sounds to me like a reward system.

I support the idea, but not gung-ho-ly. I like the idea, there are just a few possible flaws.

* Who would reward said medals?
* Elaborate more on circumstances.
* Would it be open to the public, or strictly available to moderators (or Achronos, for that matter)?

  • 03.09.2007 5:54 PM PDT

Umm heres a question? Why would we need to be trained like dogs. I mean come on really giving medals for doing something that should be done in the first place? O and by the way blacklists work much better then giving "Bad awards".

Edit: Plus the modderators can't go around handing medals. There ar'nt enough mods to allow fairness.

It would be written in to the site. 300 posts...you get a medal etc... No one hands them out... (I'd hope, except maybe Achronos)

This can boost activity in every forum on Bungie. But it will be a race to see who can get the best medals. Its a maybe for me.

In my eyes, this forum isn't a RPG game. You shouldn't get power-ups, new levels, medals, accomplishments or glittery red text when you have 19^5 posts etc. This is a place for Bungie fans to come and discuss the games that Bungie have made.

I agree, not to mention the forum would become pretty messy with all these extra doo-dads on the screen. I like the clean look it has now.

Hell, sometimes I want to even get rid of the white text moderators have.

I'll be on my own side.

The last thing we need is people ABUSING the medals, acting as if they can talk to down to other members because they have more. Such ELITISM should not be tolerated.

This could easily be abused.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I loled at that too, Nedusforface.

We can't know unless we try. Theme masters didn't abuse their power, why would these people? Don't you wonder why politicians do what the people want? Because they want to keep their jobs. Don't you think people would do what the mods want to keep their medals?
