Have you ever heard of the expression: "quit while you are ahead" ?

Now think real hard about it.

You probably didn't even see my screen. Go look at my pic with tons of evidence that I do in fact have DX10. And where the -blam!- did you get 8800 from? You must be jealous. If my PC was low end, it would barely play FEAR. It plays FEAR very well, but then I got bored of it and uninstalled it which is why it isn't there. You are just some ass that can't handle the fact that a kid has a high end PC.

Oh yeah, I'm definately jealous with Vista's dxdiag reporting my X1400 integrated POS to be a DX10 card. And what you might consider well, I consider bad. I got 8800 as the most optimistic example of what you could have. It might play FEAR, but I bet you it's at either 800x600 or 1024x768 with most of everything on LOW with no SM3 utilization. Your Sempron rig is very similar to my 4 year old rig, even if it's new. If you have a high end PC, then my current notebook with a T7200 is a -blam!- quantum computer.

And Oimnos, that's beta. Beta for a good reason, might I add. It will also stay beta until there are 3rd party DX10 apps which can be used for out of house testing.

It is my understanding that dxdiag reports the software directx currently installed, because according to your theory, XP which has been out for years now reports my geforce4 420 go in my tablet pc as a directx9c card...

Omnios, forgive me, but I am somewhat dyslexic. I meant beta instead of final.

And thread starter, your hardware is low-end. Your 6200 can be bought for about 50 USD. I consider that a high price, seeing how you see it being used in chipsets nowadays.

It is my understanding that dxdiag reports the software directx currently installed, because according to your theory, XP which has been out for years now reports my geforce4 420 go in my tablet pc as a directx9c card.../
You do know DX9's dxdiag shows what's installed, and not what your card is capable of running, right? It's similar with DX10/Vista, but DX9 is being emulated.

Isnt that what I said, zeph? And I have not heard anything different about vista's dxdiag reporting what your card supports.

im afraid im gonna have to confiscate your testicles.

What are you, the Cyber police? lol.

I doubt it, the processor is kinda old, he hasn't got a lot of memory and he hasn't got a DX 10 videocard. But he can run Vista, so he can also run H2Vista.
EXACTLY, ha ha. I can upgrade it though with some things.

I have Vista Home Premium, and upon installation, without Windows Update, DX10 was installed. Its just a Vista thing.

your running vista home...which is completely pointless to have, with as many incompatible apps out there, there is no reason to have vista unless you like the pretty pictures.

I'm calling you out on the fact that you run FEAR with high res on Vista with only 700mb of ram. I got vista ultimate on a second box, with 2GB of 667 ram, and it uses 30% just idleing. Vista is a huge memory hog.

and your running a dx9 emulator, cuz that card won't support dx10, only the 8800's will.

ReaTek AC97 is an onboard audio. If they even make a PCI card, and you paid money for it...well, that's a "whole 'nother story"

and don't take this as flaming, but before trying to argue how good you box is, take a look at what you got. its a decent machine, the fact that your able to run vista is decent (though I bet your score is under 2).

Even with my setup, i wouldn't call my box a high end gaming rig, it still needs a lot of work, and check my sig for my specs.

Oh noes! Vista is using memories that I'm not using! Have you ever tried using all your RAM? If you do, you'll notice Vista starting to cache things it doesn't access as much to your HDD. It's not a memory hog, considering it's storing things you access often automatically to memory. Care to point out these non-Apple incompatible programs?

Does it matter that he can use Direct X 10? Does it matter that he can play fear on Vista, and does it matter that he doesen't have the highest gaming machine available? I don't think it does. If it runs, good for him. You don't have to keep saying HIS COMPUTER SUCKS when he asks if he has DirectX 10.

Ok. Im not going to choose sides. Someone's video card most definitly does not support DirectX10, and its proabably just installed. Once he tries to use it (i think, i really dont know much about computers...except that they own, and more ram+dual core processor=fast) it will not run the DX10 games. But, you shouldn't insult his computer because thay are a lot of money, unless he insults you, where you should be the better person and...

You know what? Screw it. It's not kindergarten, I'm leaving.

When I referred to incompatible apps I was referencing all the apps that are installed on an XP box - pre Vista update. I'm sure most companies have released Vista-ready apps, but that involves getting new patches or new software all together. Which unless your using torrents, is quite pricey for applications that are worth getting.

Vista isn't a memory hog.....are you kidding? Regardless of how efficient it is at handling memory (which appears to be the same as XP, it still is a memory hog. I'm using over 700MB of ram just so windows can idle. How is that not a memory hog. Now it may be good at using virtual memory, but that wasn't what I was saying

I am a developer, and refuse to use vista because of how it handles apps like VS2005, SQL 2005, Flash 8. But for most people who only use their computer for Office, and the internet, sure its great.

system specs? And how are you implying Vista handles said apps differently than XP? I've not had a single problem with VS/SQL since I installed the updates. As for flash, that's a problem they've had plenty of time to fix, yet they haven't. If Flash is your trade, that's understandable. Other than that, it works perfectly for anything I've thrown at it, ranging from gaming, running through archives, video, 3d content creation, and other game development stuff.

It ran FEAR when I had XP. And, I'm not a PC gamer. Hell, I'm barely a gamer at all. I rarely play PC games. The only game I really play on my PC is Halo.
