Hired Gun: The new Gearbox?

EDIT: Clarification

Many people believe HPC was flawed in several ways. Some think that Gearbox, the company charged with porting HPC totally screwed it up, others believe that Gearbox was crippled by Bungie and Microsoft Games by a series of severe and continuous demands.

H2V is now being produced by Hired Gun, a subdivision of Microsoft Games. A similar situation with Gearbox's one. Will Hired Gun mess up? Will Bungie and Microsoft Games load a whole metric tonne of specifications on them? Or is this a bad comparison?

Gearbox, the company who was responsible for the port for the original Halo Combat Evolved to the PC, which many people believe responsible for the shoddy netcoding, lack of co-op and other problems. Others believe that Bungie is partly to blame for the problems due to putting strict limitations on the game, leading to hampering of the redesign efforts.

Now, Gearbox was a fully separate company, while Hired Gun is a separate branch of Microsoft Games (the same MS Games which now owns Bungie as well)... but it looks increasingly to me that H2V is outside Bungie's remit, by the looks of things. What's more, even the original Halo was intended for the PC, while the original H2 was built ground-up for Xbox (that last line is pure media hyperbole I just made up, but is another scary thought).

Whatever the cause for HPC, will H2V turn out in a similar state?

You guys are all -blam!- retards when you blame gearbox. Bet none of you know that there is a lag free, lead free version of halo PC's netcode, but it was ordered to be removed from H1PC by MS and Bungie with their 56K mandate.

Why can't this netcode problem just be fixed with a patch ?

And yeah , stop blaming Gearbox people , I really hope Bungie/Microsoft wont make any of these / worse decisions this time..

Um, I'd actually be happy. Gearbox turned Halo1 into a great game, with the bad netcode and all. I think the only flaw they have commited was not adding the same "details and textures (shiny AR, flagpole, etc.)" as the Xbox version.

I don't understand why you guys blame Gearbox for everything. Go ahead and play Halo2 if you like though, the most unskilled game to ever hit the market.

Hired Gun isn't the only developer working on the game. There is also a company in Houston that sports a few of the gearbox employees who originally worked on HaloPC. But I think they are only working on the EK parts, not anything like rendering, networking, etc.

The netcode was "shoddy" when used with 56K requirements. Same design is used in many games, including Halo2. I blame some of their compression units for the flawed player positions and the like though...

You do know they followed the specifications in their CONTRACT perfectly, right? It wasn't GBX that gave the game problems, it was MS's mandates on what the game should be.

And you're very much correct on your analysis. Just as Gearbox was contracted, the 'Hired Gun' team is contracted as well. Of course mistakes were learned from, but it's still a contract. If there are any faults with the game, you'd be just as mistaken for blaming Hired Gun for it, unless they break the contract.

Because the contract for porting Halo 1 says 56k support must be included. The problem is 56k, btw.
