Okay, I was wondering what everyone here thought of an idea that I have had for quite some time, but never got around to posting it. Now, how many of you, when you are typing a large body of text, accidental press a link on the page? I don't know about you guys, but it happens to me once in a while, and I lose all of that text. So, I purpose and idea to have a save draft feature. Kind of like gmail. Every few minutes it would save your draft. Of course, the only real problem would be where it goes. Maybe a little icon at the top of the page that says "My Drafts" or something. This would allow easy access. One can delete drafts, and of course, the drafts would be neatly organized according to which forum the thread is in. Then of course have the thread title, and date the draft was created. One could also simply disable this feature if they would feel it as an inconvenience. This would also help for the one in a while bug where it says that the post cannot be created at this time.

Now, in my opinion, this would help out immensely. Sometimes, I am afraid of posting a long post do to so many damn link around the text box. Now, one may ask what are the pros and cons. Well, that is rather simple:

Pros:
* When you accidentally click on a link in a large post you will not lose hardly any information.
* Fairly easy to keep track of different discussions in a "My Drafts" box.
* One would be able to disable this, if it is an inconvenience.
* Date and time are shown, to see how dated the draft is
* Drafts can be deleted at the users wish

Cons:
* More "room" would be used
* Some people may may not check the "My Drafts" box, and therefore having it over flowing.
That is all I can think of with cons. If you have any more cons, or pros, post them and I shall add them to the list.

Now, to fix the second con would be rather simple. A set time before the draft is deleted. Say twenty days or so. This would reduce over flowing.

Comments, questions, and concerns welcome. And of course criticism. Thank you for reading.

I do have firefox, however, for some reason, I do not prefer to use firefox. Now, this is not a matter of which program someone is using. This is a matter of making the site a bit more "friendly". To all users. For some, they cannot download new programs to their computer just so they don't lose what they have written, due to it being a family or business computer. This idea of mine, is to universally help the community.

I think that a "drafts" system is only really important for email. On the forums, there's not really that much need to save what you're typing so that you can improve on it later.

True. I am thinking of it as a "save what you are writing" sort of thing. Just in case you click a link. Or if you have to leave to go do something, you know that what you are writing is saved, and you will not have to worry about getting your thoughts together again. But none the less Seldon, you do have a point.

Oh, I see what you mean. I thought at first that you meant a button that would save the post in a special folder for review later. If you mean a system that would auto-save your post so you don't lose it while typing it, than I would agree that it would be useful.

With FireFox, it does it for you. Just press the back button if you accidentally leave the page, and your text is still there.

Perhaps the new B.net will include a pop-up window that asks if you want to save this text to be used for later, then you click "Yes" or "No" then leave the site.

Very simple IMO.

I think that many of you are missing the point that I am trying to make. I am talking about saving a draft of your writing, while you are typing. Not to save a draft of your post after it is made. So, I take it I was unclear, let me go through this one more time.

The idea: Little Timmy is typing a five thousand character post related to Frankie's crush on the webmaster. At about three thousand characters he accidentally clicks a link, everything he wrote is now gone.

If this idea, were implemented: Little Timmy is typing a five thousand character post related to Recon and his secret crush on Halifax. At about four thousand characters he accidentally clicks a link. Now, he then realizes that every few minutes a draft of what he is writing is saved. He goes to "My Drafts" box, and there his post is. Nothing is missing, nothing is added.

I am not talking about saving your post just for the sake of saving it after you post it. I am talking about saving your post repeatedly while you are typing. Just in case one were to accidentally press a link. As I am sure, many people do while they are typing a rather large post. And as I stated, I am not talking about just getting a new program. I.E. firefox. I am talking about universally helping everyone. Some people cannot download anything to their computers due to it being a family or business computer. Many of you may ask how I know this, that is because I always had to use the business computer to browse the web. To download something would catastrophic, in a bad way. Now, I hope I got the point across. If anyone has any questions about this idea, either post or send me a private message.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

The best solution is to type up long posts in MS-Word and then just cut and paste them into your post-submit screen. I often do this with the really long ones, and it works like a charm.

EDIT: I didn't mean to imply that your idea is bad... I actually like the idea of having some kind of autosave or "drafts" feature actually ON the bungie.net site. But I was just saying that in the meantime, before the New Hawtness arrives and even afterwards, this is a good alternative.

For those of you who are saying "get firefox" or "type it in MS word": You're missing the point. The point of the feature is to make it easier for people to post long thought out posts without risk of losing a lot of information by a clicking accident. I, for one, think that's an excellent feature and I can't come up with why any alternative would be better or why it shouldn't be implemented (aside from the cons the OP listed).

However, for me that doesn't happen, so I would like this feature,

This gets my stamp of approval

This seems to work for me MOST of the time, sometimes not. I also would concur with the other guy who said to copy and paste from a word app if you are making a long post. I don't see anything bad with this though.

What is this Firefox feature you all keep talking about?

I've never used anything of the sort.

You know - Firefox. It's a web browser, like Internet Explorer, whose primary use is to break down. I'll use it in some sentences:

"Help! My Firefox won't let me create a new topic!"
"Hey, I'm using Firefox and bungie.net looks all weird."
"-blam!- Firefox! This -blam!- piece of -blam!- internet browser crashes every ten minutes!"

And so on.

.. Silly you. Firefox is amazing.

I was talking about this "Save Draft" feature or something everyone seems to be hinting at.

Oh, well, Kamatzu, I used that all the time. :P

In Firefox it saves all of the text ~ i could click back and everything would be there when i clicked forward. It also comes up under my history ~ and with the new hawtness FF compatibility is increased.

No problem, the way you have mentioned is actually very good. The only problem is that sometimes a small post can grow into thousands of characters, know what I mean? So sometimes, a long post is very unexpected.

Precisly my point underdog. That is exactly what I am trying to get across in this idea.

Oh dear TGP, oh dear. I honestly cannot interpret this post very well, so if I interpret it wrong, just tell me.

Yes, a whole my drafts box. What exactly would be the problem with that? This would allow easy access to all of the drafts that you have created, as well as the option to delete drafts. With the option of "Select all" of course.

Um......TGP, tisk tisk tisk, as underdog said:
