I'm sorry if this has been posted already.

I was thinking if Bungie should create the ability to let group admins have custom backgrounds for their groups. Maybe you can get a picture URL and make that the picture at the top and maybe add colors to the bottom where your motto and description is.

That will probably go hand in hand with the new Themebuilder software. Not a bad idea.

Highly doubt it. It just gets back to the same argument; can everyone be trusted to post images that don't break the rules?

In groups?

That still involves Bungie.net.

But if its inside a group where only the group can see it, whos it hurting? No one, and it violates no rules as groups do not have the same rules as the public forums.

Just because regular members cannot access the material, doesn't mean that Achronos or another high-level Bungie.net guro also cannot.

I see your point, though: it wouldn't be offensive to the masses if they couldn't see it.

If i understand the original post correctly, it would be changing the group background which is applied throughout all sections of the group. Since anyone can go to a group's page and view quite a lot of the sections, we have our problem. Unless you're suggesting that only the members of that group can see the changed background etc. In that case, i honestly don't see that being done easily if it's even possible at all.

But maybe there could be a rule about what picture you post. Should've said that in my first post...

This is only partially true - groups do not have to comply with the forum rules, but they still must comply with the bungie.net terms of use. Offensive images in groups would still violate the terms of use.

If groups did not have to comply with the bungie.net terms of use, then you might end up with all sorts of horrible groups. For example, a group that only allowed white gamers, or only allowed men, or only allowed child molesters. If custom images were allowed as a theme, then God only knows what kind of pit this place could become.

I disagree with custom images and I disagree that groups should be allowed to do whatever they want.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

That sounds...dangerous.

True. Ghandi doesn't want pictures of his mom posted all about and what-not. Could be dangerous to his image and reputation, as well as his mother's.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Custom "themes", as they're called, can be created, but the process requires a little experience with html, as well as a considerable amount of time.

Of course, the theme has to be submitted and accepted, but you get a custom avatar and the "Theme Master" title.

Example? I can spam a group and get away with it if I wanted to-would that not be a violation of the ToU? I can also put multiple accounts in a group, isnt that a violation? But I may still get away with it.

Groups are allowed to accept anyone they want or decline anyone they want. So you could already possibly have groups like this.

Groups are pretty much free already to do what they want, well what I mean is that you cant force a group to only talk about 1 topic, or something like that. I know this feature probably would not be implemented, but it's not necessarily a bad thing because the vast majority of the people would not be exposed.

"Getting away with it" doesn't mean it's allowed. Most users actually comply with the rules. No, spamming is not explicitly against the Terms of Use, but several other things are (some of which might encompass certain kinds of "spamming"), including the following:

You may not:
* Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others
* Publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful topic, name, material or information.

Allowing people to upload their own pictures to the groups - which, admittedly, are mostly unregulated - would risk violations of both of these terms of use. Prevention is better than correction.

I hope there is a simpler "Drag n' drop" theme builder, eventually... One that still requires original art etc, so those with talent can still get some recognition.. But allowing anyone to put anything in there?

Dangerous, as Ghandi said.

No, groups have to follow the terms of use, they just don't have to follow the forum rules.

And if you spam a group, that can easily get you banned from all of bungie.net if I catch you. People have also been routinely banned for multiple account violations even though they only were being jerks in groups. Assuming you're not being watched in a group is a fallacy.

Back on topic, there will NEVER be any kind of image posting on bungie.net for images that we cannot control. That means no custom avatars, no custom backgrounds, nothing like that. Sorry - blame the minority of you who cannot understand the concept of "play nice."

I'll be on my own side.

Well, that kills the idea of using your XBL gamerpic as your avatar.

Achronos, will there still be the ability to build themes and submit them? (and actually get them accepted?)

I know a few people who would like to build themes and have taken interest in that again. Will we be able to do that, either right off the bat or in a later website/group update?

Not really. It's not like any of the available gamer pics are inappropriate.

But they're not really related to this website at all.. I think keeping it as Emblems and Avatars we have here works fine. (Plus the moderators etc. avatars)

Well I was responding to the fact that he said it "kills the idea". Using gamerpics as avatars is actually a possibility, not sure how much of one, but way more than any other avatar idea.

Oh, right.

It's obviously a possibility still, but I just see it being unnecessary and would take away from the Bungie feel. That's just my opinion.
