On my original account, my ranks where all 25-30ish, and I was downright disgusted at the percentage of people I met in matchmaking being scumbags. It was verry rare to run into anyone capable of having any kind of conversation that wasn't about the current game, and full of words like "own" and "nub". I got the feeling that most of the people where entirely socialy inept, and for the most part just of poor character (mind you I said most people; there was still the occasional fully functional human being). Well, anyway, I made a new profile so I could play Crackdown from the beginning again, without erasing my old data (why the hell they don't have annother way to do that built in the game is beyond me), and when I started the new account it gave me a month of xbl gold for free. I was playing around on halo 2 yesterday and today, and after a few games I realised something. People where, for the most part, tolerable and even freindly. I had a couple of rational, respectfull, and intelligent conversations. I added something like 8 people to my freinds list in a couple of hours, and finding that many nice people at the higher rank would have taken probobaly 10-20 hours. I have so far only seen 2 or 3 people that where what I would describe "rank whores" or exeptionaly bad sports. I would strongly encourage anyone dissapointed with the online community at the higher ranks to use the free month of xbl gold to play around with the low ranked folk.

My last thread: Why Reach Sucks

People up at that level usually want to win, so it would be best to save the idle conversation for customs or lobbies. And people at a lower level just want to chill.

Probably not. People at higher levels go in with parties so if you play solo they don't care about you.

Its not that they don't care, or don't want to talk. If they where quiet, or only talked about strategie and stuff it would be one thing. But they are actively unpleasent, screaming at the other team (and there own team, likely as not), calling names, and just generaly being -blam!-s. Poeple at the lower ranks generaly play the game (gasp) like a game, that is playing to win, but not freaking out if you don't, or making fun of the losing team. its not a matter of idle conversation, it's a matter of basic courtesey.

I had the same experience when I decided to create a new account when I bought an Xbox 360. Lower level people do tend to play nicer. When I play with my friends who are in that 25-30 range we do run into many more players who are unfriendly.

I never talk during normal TS games. A lot of people just give up on talking by that time. I only talk when i have a party and i usually turn on Party Privacy.

People at higher levels think that they are better than they actually are. They become really competitive, and suddenly everything that happens bad for them in the game is not their fault. You'll hear quotes such as:
- "WTF that was bull-blam!-"
- "what a terrible host"
- "my melees never work"
and many others...

On the other hand, everything that goes right for them means that they are better than you. If they get outBR'd by you, then it was because you had host or it lagged. If they outBR you though, then you are a noob and got owned.

Halo has one of the most arrogant online populations ever.

I think I may start throwing rumble pit games to stay down around level 10ish, just so I don't have to put up with as many jerks. The game has gained a whole new dimention for me, with people that I can actualy talk with. At the higher ranks there was no social aspect.

i tend not to talk unless i am in a party.
and i do admit that sometimes my mouth is working faster than my brain. no i wonder how many others will admit that. i want to win but i need to chill and think that i was unlucky.
i have on many occasions cooled down by going on my friends many other accounts that we are making for a new clan we are creating. i to have noticed that u dont get people screaming at you and do on occasions get a remark about me being in MLG to which i reply "yer i wish"
But the overall thing is that when i play people of low ranks they dont care that i may have got 30 kill or even 1 kill they just want to be my friend coz they like my accent (im british) if i play high ranks an beat them i get told i modded or had host (on my mates connection im more likely to win the lottery 5 times before i get host) and even had people remind me of the trror attacks in london> WTF that has gone way to low i say. low ranks for me equals better games. but to stop myself from getting angry i just go onto ruble training as a cool down.
thnks for reading though. it seems i let my fingers do the talking.
