It will fall into chaos, just like if there was no Law Enforcement in America.

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

O.o... this is a joke topic, right?

a sign of weakness in the community? Since some members are not mature enough to obey the rules, the community's level of maturity is diminished, and the community is less worthy of existence.

When you can scroll down the forum without seeing Locked Topics or people with “Blam” words in every sentence the Moderators can take a break from there duties. It isn’t a sign of weakness it is a sign of Ignorance from some of the members.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

This is about the worst possible thing we could do to the forums.

Sorry, but it's true.

But seriously just to clarify.. this is a joke topic, right?

There's no way to keep the people who post on this site in-line without having some kind of enforcement. If want to see what happens when there aren't any moderators online to keep the peace, check out the forums at about two or three o'clock on a Saturday morning; there are usually a bunch of spam topics in each of the forums.

Besides, what would make the community "unworthy of existence"?

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

Yes, removing the moderators from Bungie.net would only make the community stronger.
Yes, theoretical communism is possible.
Yes, I do own the Brooklyn Bridge if you're interested in buying it.
Yes, you don't really have to pay your taxes.

Get my point?

I am...whimsical today.

The reliance on moderators is indeed a sign of weakness in individual members, which in turn leads to a weakness in the community. However, just because something is weak or has a low level of maturity does not mean it is unworthy of existence. Following this train of thought to leads to the abolishment of children.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Everyone else has said it, but I'll say it too. This is the worst idea I have ever seen on the Septagon. I hope you're joking.

Absolutely not, they do do a fantastic job, regardless of how they were selected or how much attention they pay to the people theyre moderating.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Bad Idea, because even the "good" member might act out.

Without moderators the forums could turn into xbox live.

People not afraid to say what ever they want because they know nothing can be done about it.

And i dont even want to think of the spam attacks.

if enough people got together and started to spam this place the forums may die.

It happend on Ebalums world a long ways back i think

  • 03.14.2007 1:50 PM PDT

because if seeing is believing,
then believe that we have lost our eyes

I wouldn't be here if there weren't mods to control this place.

I don't think that many people would be happy the day that we didn't have moderators. Unless the day that I mentioned first had arrived.

Of course they wouldnt. Who would they quote and fawn over to get powers, then?

  • 03.14.2007 1:55 PM PDT

There are over 2 million people on this site you can't expect every one of them to be mature members that follow the rules. If the ninjas are removed it will be insane members will talk about whatever they want, post links to whatever they want, and there will be nothing to stop the spammers and trolls.

You want to know what it'd be like to have no moderators on this site? Try this easy to prepare simulation.

Step 1: Procure yourself an intact box, something a fridge or similarly large appliance.

Step 2: Fill cardboard box halfway with feral cats. One or two should be rabid.

Step 3: Climb inside the box, closing the top behind you.

Step 4: Begin screaming and thrashing wildly at the cats.

--

The reason why it's called a "community" is because there are many people from many different walks of life. Not all of them are going to be civil. Many of them will be -blam!-s. Some people won't even be from the community; there are always trolls that find forums for the sake of frustrating other users. The suggestion that the forum should be allowed to go to hell just because there are troublesome people in the community has got to be the worst suggestion I've ever heard made for this site, ever.

The worst thing they have done on this site was give you admin powers. And it will always be that. That was bad and I will likely be on a short vacation, but it was funny. Anyways I agree. If you look at any forum that has a group posting on it there is tons of spam and more. No thank you.

I'll second that, and I thank you for putting it so mildly... because when I read the original post I think a part of my soul died.

I'm having a hard time believing that this suggestion is sincere.

woo, thats's one hell of a god thing he was never an admin or had admin powers then. They were lucky just to keep him down to moderator powers.

lol, thats brilliant. I'd pay to see someone do that, just for the hilarity. Hell, it should be a sport, who can put the most vicious animal in the box and survive the longest.

What? The mods save us from spam, racial slurs, explicit images, viruses and they stop people like me from posting. To remove them would be lunancy. We like having people to clean up after us is we ruin the forums. Think of the mods as a vacum cleaner that follows you around the forum cleaning up the rubbish stuff that people drop. Granted all the mods are probably horrible kitten stangling people but its nice to have people to control the wierd stuff that happens here.

News? Podcasts? Machinima? Active forums? Competitions? Jaffa Cakes!? OMG!
Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

Wait, wait, wait.

Let's break this down for a moment.
The only real reason the moderators are there is because they're the worst ost bad-ass IP skipping forum pirates out there. Achronos give these reprobates (Recon for example) power to keep them happy and under canned spam lock down. Then of course they do the odd job such as lock bad threads (with great remorse).
So, if you were to get rid of these moderators, not only would you have no manpower too deal with the standard spam and stupidness, but you'd also be releasing the craziest most jaded pimped IP hacking spammers in the world out to the forums. BOOM!
Your PC will literally explode and single pieces will form together to create low flying attack drones with 'Ironic Text HTML Based Rays', spamming, saying comments such as "In b4 teh lok" and "L0l teh muffinz pr0n".
In short- it would be a disaster.
