Subject: Why I(and should also be you) Don't Want To Be A Moderator

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

Hmmm sorry but you are just making this thread to "suck up" and it is garbage and I think it should be locked because.

The only reason you made this was for reverse psychology in hopes that they would think ooh he doesn't want to be a moderator lets ask him to be one you my good sir are pathetic.

Good day. I said good day sir!

Reverse psychology, eh?

Hmmm.....yeah! that would TOTALLY WORK! Cuz Achronos and the mods are SO dumb enough to fall for that!

*rolls eyes*

Hence the number one rule in becoming a moderator - no existing moderator ever asked to be one. You hear the mods say it all the time... but I don't think some of you realize that they aren't joking - if you ask to be a mod, you aren't the type of person we want.

People who PM me (I've gotten three just today) who inform me they would be good moderators almost automatically exclude themselves - you don't ask for it, you rise to meet the challenge asked of you.

When we do look for mods (and we're not right now), we ask people who we think (through their actions) would be a good fit, not people who ask to for the responsibility. Given the somewhat anonymous nature of the forum, that seems to be the best policy.

Y'know I kinda figured that.

I would not want to be a moderator either. I mean sure, it's a great feeling to be an important part of a huge community, but I hardly post at all, and spend very little time here. I just wouldn't be a very effcient moderator. Being a plain 'ole, ordinary member is just fine with me.

A witty signature.

I think people on this forum need to stop focusing on moderating, period. In my mind, the moderation is already TOO noticeable, if you will. The white text segregating them from the rest of the members is a way to get them tracked, stalked, quoted, and mostly, it makes it harder for them to honestly contribute to a conversation. However, that may not change; what should change is the mentality on this forum of "Do I want/not want to be a moderator?" Why do people even ask that question, period? I'm too busy being a member to think about being a moderator - when I do see them post, I tend to think of moderators more as "senior (generally sarcastic ;P) members," whose opinion, while no more important than anyone elses, may be closer to the mark than, say, a 3 day old member. Don't get me wrong - they're, of course, in no way infallible, and that 3 day old member may be more "right" than the ninja.

Again, I want to stress how important it is for the sake of the community for people to stop worrying about moderating and start being members; contribute! Don't just forum cop, troll, brown nose, what have you. Don't post small, incoherent, detrimental posts (hell, I wish there was a rule against that) - posts are like small essays - they need a general thesis! If you aren't going to contribute in your post, ask yourself - "Why am I posting? Is this going to help the conversation?" If it's not, then just don't post. It's that easy.

Then again, unfortunately, the kind of people that need to ask themselves those questions, in general, won't. Ah, such is life. =/

Why desire to be a B.net moderator, when you can create your own groups? I would much rather be an admin in a private group than a B.net moderator. Of course, I am glad mods are around, but I would not want their job.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Because I can't be myself here if I was a ninja.

The entire concept of being a moderator is ridiculous. Why would anyone want to spend hours on end doing a job without pay? There are some times I -blam!- about not getting paid when I watch TV.

I'd be participating in the community either way, so I might as well help while I'm at it.

Besides, a message board is a place is have fun in conversations with people you don't know. Why take that seriously and spend your time dealing with the issues of it?

So yeah, moderators have to be either:

A) Insane
B) Extremely bored
C) Under lock and key and litterally tied to the computer
D) Ungodly patient

Why some people want to be a moderator? Because they want to help out and improve a community they care about. Eventually you get to a point where you do know the people you're having conversations with, and it becomes your own little "Cheers". So yeah, A, insane.

See, that's my problem: I hate helping. I instigate fights just so I have something to do.

I'm a terrible person, aren't I? Oh well.

If Colbert says it, then I believe it. He is the most objective journalist.

Reason 3: Death threats. They happen. Ask a mod.

Reason 4: PMs. Recon recently posted a pic showing that he had about 130 PMs. I would die if I had to read that many. I hate it if I have to read 2. And then those people expect a reply. If you don't reply, more crap is given to you via PM and forums.

Scary.
