Subject: B.net population evolution

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

Reading a few threads in here made me start thinking: what are the major events that have affected B.net's population? The ones that I can think of are:
Site created (with the early games, Gnop-Pathways into Darkness)
Marathon released
Marathon 2: Durandal released
Marathon Infinity released
Myth released
Myth 2 released (I refuse to count 3)
Halo released
Halo 2 announced
ilovebees.com?
Halo 2 released
Halo 3 announced

I'm not counting Oni, becuase it never was that much of a hit. A great game to be sure, but it was cut short and never generated a ton of hype.

Any that I missed? Should the three Marathon games be grouped? Myth 1 and 2? I'm too recent to have seen the community back then, seeing as how I'm from the Halo 2 announcement generation.

I'm also from the Halo 2 announcement generation... I think that's when it really took off.
I joined about one month before you un gato, and in that one month in between, about 10,000 people joined... Crazy...

**Wow... Between you, un gato, and jessHAZ joining, about 1,500,000 people signed up... That's alot of people for a year and a half... (average 1 million a year?)

** A member called Rockin Slide who joined just 2 days ago, number 2238596... That's a 6 or 700,000 member increase between Feb '06 and Mar '07.
So not as much of an increase last year as the year/s before, but still a big one...

Maybe add "Halo announced"? I wasn't around back then, so I'm not sure how big of an impact it made, although I'm sure it would've caused something.

I don't really fit into any of these. I'm basically from that time that absolutely nothing happened in. After Halo 2's release, but far enough before Halo 3's announcement.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I don't fall under that list. I joined a few months after Halo 2 released because I wanted to think of crazy crap to say in New Mombasa. It has been a while.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

Halo 2 announcement? I don't know, this is my second account, the other was about three months older than this. Halo 2 announcement.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

When was Bungie.com created? What about Bungie.net?

Strange evolution how people have come to believe

Oh, and then when I finally did get Mosaic (or something), I was able to get to this site. If you squint and imagine it with browns and blues, it starts to look eerily familiar.

Mosaic? I'd be willing to bet that many of the current members arent even old enough to remember Netscape.

I think you hit it on the head when mentioned the "more responsible" aspect of the previous generations of gamers, although I find patient to be a better fit.

Do not panic, or you will fail.

Bungie.net was created in October 2001 methinks. Check Achronos's profile.

Ever since new games were created, I think that's when our population increased, when H3 forums was out.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Add the New Hawtness in there.

And I'm one of the late pre-new hawtness people. I was here for about two or three months before the new hawtness.

Same here. HOWEVER:

I started reading the WWU's very shortly after the launch of the new hawtness. I didn't even realize that it was shortly after until I actually joined.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.
