I think that it would be nice to have as a treat in at least one level to be able to control a big covie cannon thingy. I wished in Halo that the player could use wraiths somehow, even just once in the game as with the scorpion. I would like for ALL vehicles and turrets to be used by the player at least once in the game. The mortar turret thingy's power would be balanced by the fact that you're a sitting duck, so there might be a use for it in multiplayer too. They would be powerful, but hard to use and very vulnerable due to large size. Another shooter game has a map with a big turret that makes BIG purple explosions, and it works great in a game with tanks and players on foot. It's immense power and range are balanced by it's being stationary, really really big, and it's firing slowly. A specific infantry-deployed anti-big thing weapon would make for a triangular food web and thus encourage teams of various types of forces. I agree that Halo is primarily a first person shooter, but it's nice to have funky options. I liked seeing people with different weapons and vehicles working together to cover each others' weaknesses in Halo and expect more of this in Halo 2.
