Okay, I just have a quick question so I figured this would be the best place to ask. Is there something in place that prevents members from posting too much over a short period of time? Perhaps this would be something worth considering implementing if it hasn't been yet.

I was just wondering because earlier today I went on a posting frenzy in the Optimatch forum. Finally one time after I tried to submit a post an error screen came up and gave me the option to report a bug, but I didn't. I tried clicking back and logging back into Bungie.net using the address bar several times. I was unable to get the Bungie home page to come up for a while. So I just quit trying. I tried later on today and it worked though. It wasn't my computer because other sites were working fine. I thought I might have gotten blacklisted but I guess not.

Did anyone else experience anything similar? What caused this? Maybe Bungie.net was down for a short period today and I was unaware of it. I doubt it though because they usually warn us about that when it's gonna happen.

You got a combination of a hiccup in Bungie.net and the "Anti-Spam Filter" which, as you asked, prevents users from posting to much in one day or time. Not to mention the "You've made too many threads today get a life" feature.

Could've been part of the New Hawtness, but it could've been a random glitch in the programming too. My computer screen flickered on me just now, so I'm guessing the latter, but in a mild sense.

Question, did you restart your computer after you quit trying? 'Cause that can reset some things on your computer, to the extent of my knowledge.

It flickered again.

[Edit: Damn typos...]

Thanks Recon, didn't know that. I was also wondering the same thing(about the thread max.), since I almost never make a new thread.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I just also wanted to note that the bungie.net site WAS down for about 15 minutes earlier today. It had the usual "we're down for maintenance" message. My heart skipped a couple of beats cuz I was thinking "New Hawtness ALREADY?!?!?!" but then, b.net came back up functioning as normal. You might have been trying to use the site at the same time.

One is that replies can only be posted after a certain period has elapsed. The last time that I ran afoul of it, it was set at 1 minute between posts.

I actually think it was lowered to like 30 or 40 seconds.

This site throttles postings in two major and one minor way (that I know of).

The minor one is the inability for new accounts to create new topics. Minor, and easily solved by waiting a day. It's a good chance to lurk and maybe even read the rules.

Once past that, there is the spam filter. Which is more of a posting throttle. It has two limits.

One is that replies can only be posted after a certain period has elapsed. The last time that I ran afoul of it, it was set at 1 minute between posts.

The other is a total number of new topics that an account can create in a 24 hour period. I've never run into that limit, so I don't know the count.

Either way, they have all greatly reduced the effectiveness of spam attacks and floods on the forums. Quite honestly, running into any of them causes a member to slow down and consider posting more carefully and with an eye on being more profound than prolific.

The limits can be annoying, but I am glad they are in place. Spam attacks are much less effective than they would be otherwise.
