Life can be dangerous

What is the point of not allowing emotions, avatars and so on is not allowed. Sure taking away this right from users will prevent bad images, but how do the biggest forums on the internet manage with them? (Some even BIGGER than bungie) Now, this means there is a flaw with Bungie.net. I do not know what it is but the flaw in Bungie.net must be fixed. Think what will happen when Halo 3 comes out.

l don't understand what you're trying to say. Ellaborate, please.

I wanted to see the universe, so I stole a Time Lord and I ran away.

Yeah sure it would be nice to have my own avi but, I also don't want to be looking at some little kid posting his junk. Its better that a forum like this stay away from giving its users any room to post pics. Just spend a week in the flood and you'll understand.

Not having little graphics of deformed smiley faces is a flaw?

If that is the case... I think that it is one that we all can live with.

It's beneficial, even.

I can honestly say I love Bungie.net for its simplicity and lack of eye-burning pictures. (The exception being the picture with Alta in the pink spartan helmet with unicorns in the background, what's up with that?!)

Amen.

As for custom avatars, the current system works. Just because Bungie.net has no custom avatar option for everyone, doesn't mean it's a flaw. If your friend decided to buy a green car, whereas you bought a red car, does that mean you're friend is flawed? No, it means he works differently than you do.

Plus, custom avatars could lead to plagiarism and imitation of moderators, Bungie staff and others who are allowed that option.

No. Emoticons belong on MSN Messenger and nowhere else.
Custom avatars, too. Having uploadable avatars would just cause huge amounts of explicit images to show up. Remember, this site is used by, primarily, minors. Legally, Bungie can't show those kinds of images, and, if uploads were allowed, would need many, many dedicated moderators to filter them.

Also, you need [url= at the beginning of the link in your sig.

The flaw, as with any forum, is the community, which includes you. You are part of the flaw. remove yourself and the flaw you speak of will become less of a flaw.

To fix said flaw would be the removal of all interaction between people. Which is boring and would inevitably lead to the downfall of Bungie.net as we know it.

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

This is a bungie forum. Bungie owns arguably the most popular franchise in Xbox history, Halo. Halo is live compatible. People get banned from live. These people get pissed. They spam. That's the flaw. Can't really do anything about it..

Avatars, pictures, and emoticons are just little tidbits that make the forums "colorful"

^ Not really. Avatars and signatures make you different from other posters and makes your forum appearance unique.

Achronos has already stated publicly that he will not allow emoticons on the site as long as he's the head B.net guro, and I tend to agree; I find them annoying and ugly. By the time Halo 3 is released, this site will have a new look and layout, courtesy of the "New Hawtness" remodeling, and there will definitely be no emoticons.

No flaming involved; that's just my two cents on the matter.

EDIT: I also don't really see a need for more avatars. As long as the Bungie.net artists are working on them, and they're being donated by the Theme Masters of the community, there's plenty of them on there to choose from.

Did you actually read the numerous posts in this thread which justify the lack of user customisation?

People = fail. People abuse the limited moving room they are given now, not that I don't want to use sigs and such, but it would do more harm than good.

Why did your parents name you your name instead of mine?

They made a choice. That is not a flaw.

All I am trying to say if bigger forums can handle avatars and Bungie.net cannot ,that means there is a flaw with Bungie.net. And if this flaw continues, much chaos will arise.
I do not see it doe harm on other forums only on B.net....

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Ok, so some forums do have members that have decent custom avatars and i'd imagine that'd be the same case here, but here's the thing; do we allow custom avatars but then have to ban people who will insist on using inappropriate/stupid avatars, or do we not create this problem in the first case?

I think one major issue is trust; can Achronos and his team afford to trust all the members on here? There answer i think is no.

Also, this is a reputable, very important company's website so making their site a nice, clean environment is going to be important.
