Subject: Chapters..... why do so little users use them?

well, a few weeks ago i think achronos said only about 6% of bungie.net users use the chapter system. I have thought long and hard of how we can get that number up. I believe that a large reason why people dont use it is because people dont know about it. I think bungie should put more links around the sight and try and increase the knowledge of chapters. I think another reason is because alot of bungie users are inactive or only log in to check stats. Mabye bungie should try and put something on side of your screen that has to do with groups

Thoughts?

Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I think certainly awareness is an issue, but also we have to consider how many people use this site on a regular basis and how many are prepared to go ahead and manage a group.

Really the whole group thing has been dying out (so it would seem). Now that we've been told that Achronos and the team are going to start re-defining the purpose and functionality of groups, i think we're going to potentially see a large impact on who and how many use the groups section of the site.

Perhaps if you made some system where only longer time members could use groups? That would cut back on a lot of the empty shells laying around.

And if my vote matters; I used groups on a regular basis, for events, and just a place to kind of hang out and have different discussions with specific groups of people. Sometimes it's a way of identifying ourselves. I would hate to see them go permanently.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Personally, I think that the problem is mostly that most groups are simply a place where you can pretty much do everything that you can do on the forums. Group managers do not take advantage of the few resources available to them now, and most people only create groups in order to be able to create stratifications of power.

Groups that have genuine purposes are few and far between, but extremely useful and effective when done right. Gods Prophet is right. The groups need to both be more prominently promoted by Bungie.net and also have a more defined role here.

By the way, said role should rarely, if ever, be "a free-for-all forum where you can discuss whatever you want and we have promotionz too!"

Some of the groups are truly useful. Ironically, some of them can be extremely useful to new users, who are the least likely to make their way to the groups as the groups can be both intimidating and mind-boggling. Hopefully, this can be fixed soon by the New Hawtness.

Now, you might see me being funny or simply cynical, but I wonder how many of the remaining 94% were banned within a week of their account's creation? Basically, how many of the 94% that don't use them are spammers whose accounts are made simply to spam a forum.

Personally, I love my chapters. Not all people will share the same love that I do, but I think it would be a shame if they were removed completely like I know some people wish.

Considering I once heard there were 1 million+ registered members on Bungie, sixty thousand members in groups are quite a lot. The problem is that there are a lot of crappy groups. The novelty of finding other Bungie members who are also fans of zxy comic/movie/game/book etc. wears off fast, escpecially considering there are probably bigger forums for those places. Most other groups, like the Flood Regulars, die because of lack of actvity. Some groups like the Black Chapter and Body politic have managed to stay fresh because of their content, which cause debating and arguing. Clans usually disband really fast, so their groups mostly don't stay long(especially now considering Halo 2 is being played less and less every day). I think the guidelines for groups should be more strict, even if a group has 30+ members, it still should be deleted if nobody has posted anything new there in six months.

And probably because a pretty big portion of members are inactive, and were accounts that were made but never signed in with.

But I don't have access to the stats, just throwing this out there...
