Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

This isn't really a new PC, it's just a rebuilding of my old one in order to be able to play Crysis and other forthcoming games well.

Here are the new parts:

ASUS M2N-E SLI Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 500 Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor

2x Patriot 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

1x Geforce 8600GTS/Ultra PCIe Video Card

I may add another 8600GTS/Ultra in the future for SLI.

I'm going to try to save up around $500 for doing this.

[EDIT]The projected cost for all of these parts, with shipping on Newegg, is $552[/EDIT]

What do you guys think?

Just for reference, here is what is carrying over from the old PC:

160GB and 80GB PATA HDDs

200GB SATA HDD

Z-2300 2.1 Speakers

Acer 19" LCD monitor

450W PSU

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

SLIing midrange cards has never been a good idea.

Because you get a better value out of one high-end card.

You should also forget about the athlon and look at the core 2 duo instead.

I did look at the Core 2 Duo, but it is a lot more expensive, and I don't/won't have the money for one.

Only get 1GB of ram and get a core 2 duo E6300

In the future you can upgrade yourr ram without disposing of the old ram, not the same with a proc.

The few, the proud, the leet.

You're good with SLI on the 8600s. If you stick an 8800 GS in there, it'd be CPU limited under the 4x00+. People dont seem to pay much attention to this fact, but even a Core 2 Quad 6600 is a bottleneck to an 8800 GTX on 1920x1200 and above. If you're not going to use those resolutions, you dont have a good reason to buy an 8800 variant.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor

If you get an 8800 prepare for a bottleneck, those cards too powerful for that thing, unless you do some overclocking.

450W PSU
Go for something higher, like 550W, That's what I have.

160GB and 80GB PATA HDDs

200GB SATA HDD

Nice.

Two 8600s in SLI would be bottlenecked by that processor as well, you might be alright with just one.

If you call that bottlenecking. The bottle would be like a wide mouth quart jar. If you're thinking the 8600 is going to be like the 7600 was to the 7800 you really need to take a look at the white paper press sheets again.

I'll say it again: I'm not getting an 8800. They are just too expensive for me right now.

1. I have a job.

2. I am saving that money to pay for the stuff I have on the list. I can't take any of the money out of my bank account because that is college money.

Who cares about you're computer. You're not impressing anyone, it just shows that you have nothing better to spend your money on.

And why does everyone post their specs now?

1. I wasn't asking about running H2V. I can already run it if I want. I was asking about the parts/specs in general so I can run all new games coming out.

2. I am saving the money from working at my job. :-p
