This is something that would help show new users who to talk to other than forum ninjas about the forums. Those few who have posted many, many, many times should deserve to be called more than members. go to the xbox.com forums and you wil see what I am talking about.

Your level would increase based on activity, and it would be harder to increase as time goes by. Oh Noes people will spam. Not so. Any blacklisting will knock you down a level, or remove all of your exp (so you have to start over basically) Also any posts that are blocked makes you loose half of your current exp. The amount you are using to get to the next level. Deleted posts makes you loose one fourth

But what about those members who aren't on that much but have meaningful topics, well members can nominate members, and with approval of forum ninjas they could move up a level for their contributions.

There would NOT be a progress bar of any sort. You will have no way of knowing how close you are until you get the next level. This means you could possibly have just lost almost all of your points if your not careful.

Problems with this
1.) This puts much more work in the hands of the ninjas as well as it can test their integrity to be honest and fair with their judgements.
2.) It may cause more elitism in the already stratified and broken community

So what do you guys think? Yay, Nay, maybe.

This is very rough and i was creating it on the spot. So add or subtract and make new however you wish.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

This is where someone crys ELITISM!!! ahhh

I wouldnt mind somthing to let older members stand out.

Like a bar or somthing for every year your here.

I dont know im just grasping at straws.

Personally, when it comes to this idea, I still continue to support Recon's outline. His post is a very thought out idea, and elitism is nearly no where to be found. In my opinion, if anything, Recon's rough outline should be the skeleton of a user level basis.

No. It's been suggested, and denied. It might work on smaller forums, but really, it's a bad idea for bungie.net. The sheer number of people here would find some way to ruin it. If someone is known for making valuable posts, that should be all that's required, not an XP bar. Besides, there was major elitism when merely the join date was displayed. Imagine a clearly visible bar.

Besides, part of the reason I like bungie.net is the lack of such a bar.

Go to xbox.com and sign in there, go to the forums and you will understand what I mean.

Here. Completely avoid the conversation, as I just chose a random thread that has multiple user levels in it.

I put maybe myself so don't hold back on critisism.

Also i did mention that there would be no progress bar displayed, at all. It would only be visible to ninjas if they wanted to look at it by clicking on the user.

I know what you mean, but the ninjas shouldn't need any sort of level system to tell if a thread needs to be locked, or if a user needs to be banned.

Spamming Bungie since 2004!

This has been suggested since this site came up. There are many problems with the idea, such as the spam.

I am with Roki7, and agree that Recon's outline is good. I followed this skeleton in my idea about a post-flagging feature a few weeks ago. It's unfortunate, but I think that if you make the system automatic -- ESPECIALLY if you base it on post count -- users will find a way to game the system.

Moreover, elevated status is CERTAINLY not a good idea simply because a user has lots of posts and has never been blacklisted - it must be ensured that users are creating "good posts" rather than merely a high volume of "somewhat okay" or "not quite bad enough to be blacklisted" posts.

Achronos is working on an idea to encourage good posts, and I'm fairly excited to see what he will come up with. He has hinted around about what this idea will be like, and indeed has indicated that some of the postive-reinforcement "systems" will be included in the underlying groundwork in the New Hawtness. He has also indicated that the "good post encouragement system" will not be user-visible yet, but will be appreciated by the regular members when he is finished working on it.

I think that you have the right general notion about encouraging good posts and user loyalty, but that your idea is a bit too flawed to be implemented.

With the Latest Hawtness looming on the horizon, I suspect that we will all need to wait and see.

Though something tells me that once we get our hands on the Latest Hawtness, it's not going to be in it's final trim package. Sure, it'll be factory fresh and even have that new-site smell that everyone loves.

But I think that Achronos (and team) have some after-market modifications planned once we are over the break-in period.

As long as it doesn't have the "BrP-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-PPPPP" exhaust system. I've never understood those. A way to make a smaller engine sound.... louder? It reminds me of using a clothespin and a playing card in my bicycle spokes when I was 7.

Anyway, I could live without those sort of "enhancements". If the site gets pimped, it should be in a nautical theme. Avast.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Sure, it'll be factory fresh and even have that new-site smell that everyone loves.

Do you think that the Bungie Shop could market the "new site smell"? I'd personally love to buy a cardboard Septigon to hang in my car...

Why stop there? You could easily make a spammer scent, flammer scent, as well as a Drunken Webmaster scent....

I would have made it to where it wasnt automatic, and members had to be approved, however, imagine being a forum ninja and having to click approve or disaprove, maybe having to look up the person and such.Yay someone found the flaw.

Yeah, this is something I knew would happen. Most of this system relies of the forum ninjas, including monitoring posts.

Edit- please remember to keep this thread on topic, I hate it when my own threads have parts that dont involve the thing I want to talk about.

Webmaster?

Vomit, urine, stale beer, cheap gin and that hard to pin down odor of a fur suit that has never been washed in over a decade.

I can't imagine a market for that.

Yes I do like the system of rewards. However, it annoys me that there are only really 2 ranks that exists in the forum, and the lack of more leads to some confusion. If anything I think we could add another position, not above member, but it would be considered someone wiser than a member.

It would show that those these members have just as much power as you do, they have shown that they do know what they are talking about most of the time.

  • 03.18.2007 7:24 PM PDT

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

It's not about power, and it never should be about power. It should only be about a mild, non-arrogance-inspiring reward that shows the fruits of loyalty, intelligence, and rule-consciousness here on b.net.

I don't think there's any reward the wouldn't instill arrogance in some people. Even with Recon's idea of a hidden forum, I'm willing to bet some prick would take a pic of the new hidden H3 Live forum just to say "I have Halo 3 and you don't". There is nothing that this community can't ruin. Sad, but kind of true. (Montages, swat topics, "bk", MLG discussion, you name it)

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

',:\ IF YA SAHMELLLL

Unless there was a really good reward for each level, I would try my hardest to have the lowest level possible. That's right, I would bring deranking to internet forums. I would have a level one just so that I could call myself "number 1". It'll be a dark day.

no, leves display elitism

  • 03.19.2007 1:38 PM PDT

Power is the wrong word to choose. I meant... forum ninjas are more powerful. we dont need members who are also more powerful. You understand what I am saying. Its power, but... not in the physical sense.

Elitism already exists in this forum, EVERYONE displays it, myselft, the art of halo 2, the ninjas. Everyone uses it, and I think a ranking system will only increase. This site shouldn't be about that, and we all need to make an atempt to fix that problem. The community is not a community, so I am pulling back this idea as it would make it weaker and more stratified than it already is.

If you would like to continue to improve or change it, thank you I will not defend the idea anymore however. Also I do not mean this to be the end all, be all situation, and I would ask us to work together, but this is not going to be accepted.

However, wouldn't it be interesting to see what would happen if it was posted on other forums, a site where not everyone posts after they think

So if a ninja could close this.. I have lost ferver in the discussion, and since no one who voted yes has shown up I dont think its going to have multiple sides to the argument.
