Slow text counter performance. I might change it to update on a periodic basis, or only on preview, because it slowing things down. Comments?

The typing lag that the counting function causes is pretty irritating, I admit. Personally, I wouldn't care if it only showed on preview. It seems like 99% of the messages here are well under the character limit anyway.

2 alternatives might be:

1) You could just have it check when they click "preview" or "submit", then pop an alert("Too much text, silly!") and send the focus back to the textarea.

2) You could keep the dynamic character count and just call the function on the onblur event of the textarea. But I suppose the main reason that the textarea will loose focus is because the user will be clicking "preview" or "submit", so that might not make sense...

After listening to myself, it seems like your idea is best: Just call the function every 5 or 10 seconds.

I am running IE 7 on a Windows XP Gateway laptop. For some reason, Bungie.net is MUCH slower to load today. Before today, the site was loading quickly.

Part of the Top Story Flash Banner is cut off in Firefox, as well as the lower segment of a longer signature.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Nope, it isn't. The top story (not flash) text is longer because the content system's preview isn't accurate and allows more text than the front page allows, so Frankie can't always accurately see if his text fits (already fixed in our dev code branch). That's not a Firefox specific bug. Also, the signature thing has been gone over MANY times in this thread and others - the signature box does not expand to fit your signature, your signature must be edited to fit in it. If your signature is too big vertically (even if it has less than 400 characters), the forum will just not display the extra parts. By design, all browsers.

You'll find that there aren't that many Firefox-only bugs anymore - Firefox 2 is one of the two primary browsers for this site, and should work identically to IE 7.

One bug I noticed is that it seems I can vote in polls any number of times with a liberal use of the back button. The poll seems to "forget" that I voted virtually every time I refresh the page.

anyone who's played more than you has no life

anyone who's played less than you is a noob

When a thread is moved to another forum, any replies made to it still show in the "forum preview" [on the "Public Forums Home" page] of the thread's original forum. Click me. The thread circled in red was moved to New Mombasa, but it's replies are noted in the Septagon preview.

Once more, not a bug but something that really bugs me. The drop down menus [Projects, Stats etc] seem to stay open for random time periods, but, most importantly, they are really annoying when you try to click on the forum navigation [Home > Public Forums > The Septagon] when trying to move to any of these options. Would it be possible to have this navigation moved to beneath the forum banners? Click here to see what I mean. It'd save my mouse a flogging.

Another bug which I think could be related to the incorrect loading of the "Public Forums Home" page, as shown below. For some unknown reason when I load that page random things are 'selected' - not highlighted by my mouse but just selected. Click here to see what I mean, and click the link below to see the weird loading that sometimes happens.

Also, whilst -blam!- is censored, "raped" is not.

Click here to see a messed up "public forums home" page. I am using the very latest version of FFx with Windows XP Media Centre Edition. The page loads like this intermittently.

the "bullet point" can no longer be made with [ * ], it just looks like: *

some of the navigation arrows are not displayed correctly - they are cut off about 1/3rd of the way up the image. Click me to see!

poll results overlap with O.P's 'hover profile'. Clicky

not a bug but - if you use certain background images for your profile, the white text becomes invisible for certain sections. Click for marathon. Also, on your stats overview, if your experience bar is say, 30% to the next level, the dark colour of the level number's text makes it difficult to see.

The Red vs Blue link doesn't work in the Halo 3 part of the site. On this page: http://www.bungie.net/projects/Halo3/default.aspx
It just takes you back to the Bungie.net homepage.

yes.
i found out accidentally if you vote, reply, then either cancel or post something, the original option to vote appears again. this can be done an unlimited amount of times, and as long as you go reply, then cancel and leave the thread, you can come back and continue voting.

I brought this up to them yesterday. Achronos said the polls are just for fun and nobody should expect completely accurate results. The best way to ensure people don't abuse the system is to not let them know that it's even possible... (In other words: SHHH!!!)

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

The text to the right of the bullet boxes under "Site Updates" on the homepage is not aligned properly, it is not indented and so is being partially covered by the bullets.

OS is Win XP, all updates, using IE 6.0.29, no addons.

In the stats portion of the site, betrayals are not showing up, despite having occurred in the game. I'll leave a link below of a game I specifically made to test whether betrayals were showing up correctly. In the game, the non-guest name simply betrayed his teammate, the guest, and the game was ended.

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

I continue to have 2 consistent errors. I'm not sure if they have been answered in the last 6 pages, but I digress.

In Safari, I can't access the Profile bars in my profile. I can't update my background or Avatar, or personal info. They just are greyed out. I have to use Firefox.

When I recieve messages, they continue to say that I have new messages, even when I've responded to them.

On the stats page, the games are listed as "items" not games. Is this as it was meant to be? It would make a great deal more sense if it said games.Clicky.

I have read this thread, and I have not seen this bug mentioned, so here it is.

Clicky here.

Well, this for me is really creepy. Because, as you know Achronos, this was my previous account that I deleted about one year ago (The one in the picture). Yet, it appeared by as my name, even though it was deleted over a year ago. Now, this is extremely weird, I have never experienced a thing like it. Just thought I would pass it by you.

My New Messages counter registers previously read PMs as new. It says I have 1, but I've checked them all already and replying to them doesn't seem to work. I'm pretty sure someone brought it up. I'm using IE6.

Procrastination never ends...

A couple of my playlist stats said no games played today, and recently went back to normal. The same happened for others too. Game history still showed games in those playlists.

Not sure if this is a bug or if it's just new, but everytime I log in my username is "to bungie.net" and then changes to my real username if I reload or go to a new page.

  • 03.29.2007 7:48 PM PDT

I don't mind being eaten.

i would really like to have a "saved threads" option in the forum or my stats dropdown. its kind of tedious to keep going to the hub, then to the saved threads.

When I was reading the WWU, I was scrolling with my mouse (Click Here ) and I noticed that it was leaving little gray boxes of the scroller. This only happened on the right of the page and under the "Discuss This Story" and above the "---" where the pic. of Mister Chief. Most likely this is just a Firefox bug, but I just wanted to let you know.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the new site or not but ever since XBL went offline I haven't been able to see which of my friends are online. It worked fine before XBL went down but now I just keep getting the same message that I got when I tried to see when XBL was down. It still tells me how many friends I have online but everytime I click on it I get that message.

I'm probably twice your age, punk!

Oh, and say hi to your Mom.

This is more of a difficiency than a bug. In the game stats results, when you hover over a players symbol it displays their medal counts. However, it will only display a maximum of 7 medals. If the player has more than 7, it doesn't show those medals or the count for them. Thanks. Love the new site.

Who reads these?

The arrows that are used to navigate between pages in a thread are overlapped by the first post on that page.

Low priority stuff really.
